Brentwood High dance team also takes second-place in small jazz division

Ravenwood dance team placed second in jazz and third in hip-hop in the large division at the TSSAA state competition.

Ravenwood High School’s dance team finished as runner-up in the TSSSAA state large jazz competition and third in hip-hop, while  the RHS cheerleading team placed third at state.

Brentwood High also took second place in the small jazz dance category.

The RHS dance team performed beautifully at the state championships in Murfreesboro to earn second place in the Large Varsity Jazz Category. They lost by only 0.2 of a point, 91.5 to 91.3 to Bearden High of Knoxville. The Ravenwood dancers also competed in the Hip-Hop category, placing third.

Dancers on the team are: seniors Kathleen McPherson, Makenzi Wade, Madison Davis; juniors Madelyn Hopfensperger, Carson Needham, Madie Hall, Natalie Aaron, Allison Sorrentino; sophomores River Banks, Mackenzie Huelsmann; and freshmen Allea Billington, Stephanie Seibert, Neely Aaron, Keely Paxton and Sidney Hartley. Coach is Kirstin Hawk.

The Ravenwood cheerleading squad was third in state.

“The girls danced the best they had all year at state,” said Kristin Payne, Ravenwood dance team sponsor. “There was so much passion and emotion in the jazz dance that you couldn’t help but want to dance with them.

“It was a great performance with lots of energy,” she said about the hip-hop routine.

The Ravenwood cheerleaders missed first place in the Middle Tennessee Region Cheer Competition by only .5 of a point before placing third at the state event.

The team competed in one of the hardest divisions this year, and its victories were an even more inspiring accomplishment for being such a new team.

Members of the RHS cheerleaders who participated at state are:  Jasmine Archie, Caley Caldwell,  Kathryn Ervin, Jordan Hill, Kristen Huskey, Kaylen Lanius, Ellie Marquardt, Rainey Massey, Reilly O’Connell, Abby Quinlan, Katherine Thompson and Lawren Thompson.

Coaches for the RHS competition cheer team are Tess Thompson and Melissa Cartwright Walker.
