Bruins boys team tied for second going into final round

Ravenwood senior Jonathan Wise stands in second place, just one stroke off the lead, going into the final round of the Class AAA state golf tournament Wednesday. And Brentwood High, competing for the team title, is tied for second.

Wise shot a 4-under 68 at WillowBrook Golf Course in Manchester, Tenn., on Tuesday, while Rossview senior Tyler Guy carded a 67.  Five other golfers were under par including Independence senior Michael Monroe (70).

Brentwood, the regional champ which went undefeated most of the season, was eight strokes behind defending champion Hendersonville (292) and tied with Houston (300).

Peyton McClure, who was 3-under on No. 1-9, and Grant Lawrence, even par on the front nine, both had rounds of 2-over 74 for the Bruins. BHS sophomore Chris Tyminski finished at 3-over 75, while sophomore Drew Grundberg (77) and senior Ryan Grungberg (79) also broke 80.

Ravenwood sophomore Davis Baxter, qualifying as an individual along with Wise, turned in a 9-over 81.

Wise, who teed off on No. 10 like the other BHS and RHS boys golfers, went out with a minus-3 with one bogey and four birdies (including scoring a 2 on No. 11 and 17. He then had two birdies and a bogey on the other nine holes.  

Brentwood’s Lawrence scored an eagle on No. 2.

In the girls competition, Ravenwood senior Katie Parrott and Brentwood senior Catherine Doyle both shot 12-over 84 and are tied for 25th entering the final day. Lawrence County’s Emily Williams leads with a 1-under 71.

Doyle was just 1-over on the back nine, including an eagle on No. 10. Lady Bruins teammate Sarah Kleine-Kracht, just a freshman, carded a 97 over the opening 18 holes.
