State duals this weekend in Ag Center Brentwood Home Page news reports Ravenwood’s wrestling team rolls into the state duals tournament on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 4-5, after successfully defending its region championship on Friday.
The Raptors built a 34-3 lead and guaranteed victory in the Region 6-AAA final against Independence before forfeiting the final four weight classes for a 34-27 win.
The state duals open at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Williamson County Ag Exp Arena in Franklin with half of the Class AAA Round of 16 and the A-AA and Division II quarterfinals. The other teams wrestle at 5:30 p.m., then the AAA quarterfinals begin at 7:30 p.m. along with the A-AA and DII semifinals.
On Saturday, consolation rounds start at 9 a.m., with Class AAA championship semifinals at 1 p.m. All three sets of championship finals are scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
In Friday’s region final, senior Cody Stewart started off the match with a 10-8 overtime win at 189, then senior captain Harrison Hawthorne (215) pinned his opponent at 1:13 in the first period at 215.
Senior 285-pounder Dylan Yeager also won 4-1 in double OT before the Raptors lost their first matchup. RHS then won six straight matches, with senior Kyle Keunhold (112), sophomore Jacob Freeman (119), sophomore Jack Finnegan (125), Taylor Warren (130), senior Ryan Churchill (135), Michael Gray all taking their weight classes.
Ravenwood recently also added the Centennial tournament championship to its belt this season.
The 6-AAA individual region tournament will be at Overton High on Feb. 11-12, and the state individual championships will take place at the Ag Center on Feb. 17-19.
