Ravenwood’s new coach has decided which quarterback will start Friday’s season-opener at Battle Ground Academy, but says all three contenders could see action.
Senior Harrison Johnson won the starting nod due to more consistency, Raptors Coach Joe Rietveld said. The other QB candidates are juniors John Overton and Andrew Radford.
“Harrison is going to start, but going in all three will have the chance to play,” Rietveld said. “Sometimes, you have to change your game plan.”
The RHS said the quarterbacks took turns during preseason practice on who was the best on any given day.
“It’s been a very fun and difficult challenge,” Rietveld said. “I’ve never had this situation in my 25 years of coaching where we’re had three quarterbacks. They all offer different skill sets. And I think we can win with all of them.
“We’re going to go with Harrison and see what happens. I don’t know that it will end up that way at the end of the season. It’s definitely going to be a competition throughout the year.”
