Ravenwood returns to next weekend's state tourney

Ravenwood High School captured its third straight dual region championship, winning over district rival Independence in the final 36-18, and qualified for next weekend's state tournament.

Jacob Freeman (132) and Grant Jones (160) both pinned their opponents in the championship match for the maximum six points apiece. It only took Freeman 22 seconds and Jones 1:31 to end their bouts.

An IHS forfeit victory at the 138-pound weight class also gave the Raptors six points in Thursday's regional dual tourney at McGavock.

Both Ravenwood and Independence advance into the TSSAA state dual wrestling state tournament Feb. 3-4 at the Williamson County Ag Expo in Franklin.

RHS also got wins over the Eagles by Kyle Kuenhold (120), Robin Klingensmith (126), Tanner Reynolds (152), Andrew Debattista (170), Jonathan Mabry (195) and Preston Schotts (220). Those decisions were all worth three points each. Mabry and Schotts both their matches 4-3.

Raptors Coach Josh Peck called it "a great team effort." 

In the earlier 43-29 semifinal victory against Overton, Jones also earned a pin, this time in 4:41. Reynolds won his match by a pin in 44 seconds, while Mabry scored a pin in the 182 weight class. Evan Long (195) and Bowen Reau (285) also won by pins.

Camden Grecco, at 170 pounds, had a technical fall in the semifinal.
