More vendors greet multi-generational visitors
By SUSAN LEATHERS Brentwood Home Page Town Center Saturdays steering committee refuses to be deterred despite its first two street fairs experiencing less than divine weather. Both in April and again last Saturday, it seems Mother Nature has been determined to attend -- to make her presence known.
The downtown Brentwood street fair was a buzz of activity early Saturday morning as artists, farmers, food vendors and event sponsors started setting up their white tents and putting out their wares. The smell of barbecue and kettle corn began wafting through the air.
But around 10:30, a big downpour hit Town Center causing vendors and visitors alike to scramble under the tents for close to 30 minutes until the fast-moving storm passed over.
From 11 a.m. until about 1 p.m., however, it was smooth sailing and a nice-size crowd of all ages began drifting up and down Town Center Way between Pewitt Drive and the Town Center Roundabout.
Chairman Alicia Helm said after the cold, damp weather experienced at the inaugural TCS in April and Saturday's rain and wind, she feels sure the Aug. 20 street fair will go off without a hitch.
