The first participant to cross the finish line in Monday's Cadillac Firecracker 5K rolled across it. Pat Price, the only wheelchair racer in the road race, took off two minutes before the other runners, posting a 16:50 time.

This year's Cadillac 5K included a costume contest. Here Y volunteers Jessika Poirier and Liz Wilson model with a Cadillac from Andrews Cadillac, the event's title sponsor.

He was far from alone, however. Over 1,300 runners took off when the gunshot fired bright and early Monday morning to start the annual race that benefits the Maryland Farms YMCA’s Annual Giving Campaign, and proceeds help fund the After Breast Cancer (ABC) program.

Price had formerly participated and placed as a finalist in the Junior National Wheelchair Championships.  He participates in many local 5 and 10Ks.  His personal record is 15 minutes.

Tom Divinnie and Alexa Hinton were recognized as the overall male and female winners, posting times of 15:53 and 18:20, respectively.

Divinnie, 23, is a former Brentwood Bruins cross-country and track athlete.  He took his cross-country prowess to the collegiate level at Davidson University. Last year, with one year of eligibility left, he ran for Wake Forest University where he is pursuing a masters degree in accountancy.

This was his first time participating in the traditional Fourth of July event that winds through Maryland Farms business park.

About winning the race, Divinnie said, “I knew there were going to be a lot of good runners out there. I wasn’t sure about my fitness. I was pleasantly surprised.”

The Luken Kids Race, a one-mile course, followed at 8 a.m. an hour after the 5K.  Over 150 kids participated.  While no official results were kept, 9-year-old Jordan Clunan showcased his speed as the race’s unofficial winner.
