Police hope to match last year’s auto burglary rate of zero
Brentwood Home Page news reports CoolSprings Galleria and Franklin Police on Thursday announced this year’s call to action for the mall’s 130-plus retailers: “Not in Our Mall, make a difference, make the call.”
Last year’s partnership between Galleria employees and police during the Christmas shopping season resulted in an unprecedented low auto burglary rate. In fact, not a single one was reported at the mall last year from Black Friday through Christmas.
Mall management and Franklin Police say their goal is to replicate that this year.
“Our presence and partnership at the mall will be of benefit to businesses and their customers,” said Franklin Police Chief David Rahinsky.
Police say that highly visible patrols with uniformed officers in marked cars, along with officers on bicycles and Segways will assure shoppers that they are in good hands.
“Individuals who choose to shoplift or break into parked cars despite a visible police presence will be surprised, disappointed, and arrested by a contingent of undercover officers who will look like the average shopper,” Rahinsky said.
An Incident Command Vehicle also is being deployed as part of this year’s holiday security plan.
