Lost retriever believed to be in Split Log area By SUSAN LEATHERS Brentwood Home Page A canine private investigator has joined the search for Skippy Lou, the lost retriever whose owner underwent her first chemo treatment last Friday.
“Pet detective” Karin Tarqwyn of k9pi.com arrived in Brentwood from Nebraska on Thursday to aide in the search. On Tuesday morning, Tarqwyn and Debbie Mims were searching in the vicinity of Ravenswood Farm off of Wilson Pike where Skippy Lou’s scent has been traced. They believe the tan Labrador retriever mix with a white muzzle is headed east and are asking all residents and travelers in the Split Log Road area to be on the lookout for Skippy Lou and to let them know if she is sighted.
Though they have tracked her to the southeast area of the city, they believe the scents are four to five days old.
“We’re trying to get a perimeter for where she’s been. We’re trying to get a recent sighting. That’s what we really, really need” to pick up a fresh trail, Mims said. Laminated flyers have been posted in the area.
About 15 people joined the search effort over the weekend, keeping owner Jill Napier’s hopes alive that her best friend would be found. Napier, who recently lost her job, has been diagnosed with two types of cancer.
“She’s doing OK; she’s very weak,” said Napier’s friend, Mims, who was dog-sitting Skippy Lou when the 6-year-old dog ran off without her leash Aug. 13. “We’re trying desperately to get her back.”
Skippy Lou is 50 to 55 pounds and was wearing a pink collar with diamond polka dots when she disappeared. She likes chicken and cheese. If anyone sees Skippy Lou, please call Mims at (615) 738-0085 or Misha Williams at (713) 392-4734.
