Brentwood Home Page news reports Owl’s Hill Nature Sanctuary will host an organic wine tasting at 5-7 p.m. Sunday, May 1, featuring Will Motley, owner of Woodland Wine Merchant in East Nashville.
The sunset wine tasting, which will be held at the Sanctuary’s pavilion, will be casual. Participants will have a chance to chat with Motley about the different kinds of organic wine and the methods used to grow grapes organically, without the use of pesticides and commercial fertilizers.
Motley will bring a diverse selection of six wines representing different types of grapes and various countries.
“Many of the Old World wineries in France and Italy have always grown grapes organically,” he said, “but a growing number of American vintners are using sustainable farming techniques as demand for organic wines continues to increase.”
Cost is $20 in advance, $30 at the gate. Reservations are limited, so it is recommended that they be made in advance at www.owlshill.org/artmusic or 615-370-4672.
Proceeds from the wine tasting will help support the Sanctuary’s live non-releasable owl exhibits, which are used for educational purposes; upkeep of its hiking trails; and a variety of conservation programs in place to manage a wide variety of plant and animal life, including old-growth trees, cedar glades, wildflowers, butterflies, amphibians and Eastern Bluebirds.
Owl’s Hill Nature Sanctuary is a fully protected, 160-acre green space located at 545 Beech Creek Road just south of Murray Lane and east of Hillsboro Road.
