It seems the overachieving volunteers at the Brentwood Library have been getting a little antsy of late. A few weeks ago, they were surveyed and they didn’t hesitate to voice some dissatisfaction.
Don’t get alarmed, volunteer coordinator Jen Wooters says.
“We discovered that volunteers are happy with the work they do, but they would like options beyond shelving and answering phones,” she explained. So the library staff did what any good “boss” would do.
“We responded by creating two new volunteer jobs: Book Search volunteers and Volunteer Office Assistants,” Wooters says.
They even have job descriptions:
Book Search Volunteer : Do you love to search the library’s shelves? Book search volunteers search the shelves for a list of specific items, collect those items on a cart, and deliver the cart to Circulation staff members. Choose one shift, or take more than one. Time commitment: One 1-hour scheduled shift per week for 4+ months. Help is needed from 9 - 10 a.m. on weekdays and 10 - 11 a.m. on Saturdays.
Volunteer Office Assistant: These volunteers work in the Administration Office. They answer the phones, transfer calls to the proper departments, and may help with office tasks such as stuffing envelopes, stapling, making copies, cutting bookmarks, assembling Book Club kits, etc. Time Commitment: One 2-hour scheduled shift per week for 4+ months. Help is needed Monday-Friday, from 9-3.
The good news? You don’t already have to be a volunteer to apply. Interested individuals are encouraged to pick up a volunteer application at the Circulation Desk or download one from the library’s website by clicking here.
Local Taco opening Monday
I'll have a real story tomorrow, but I have a few nuggets of news about The Local Taco I thought I'd go ahead and pass along to all who have been watching the slow but steady transformation of the old China Hut/Harpeth Grill into a really neat space in Town Center on Pewitt Drive.
First, owner John Ko tells me it's really opening Monday. Now this will be a "soft opening," so don't expect everything to be perfect, but it will be open.
And for any and all who know and follow the Greater Nashville restaurant scene, the biggest news is that Debra Pacquette, former chef and owner of Zola, is helping to develop the menu and will be in the kitchen along with Chef Therese Everette, who also works at The Local Taco's Sylvan Park location.
