Best wishes to the Destination Imagination Teams going to Globals in Knoxville May 26-30: ACTORS, Dinamites, and Awkward Turtles.

Edmondson: The fourth-grade students are getting ready to enter fifth grade. They are working on probability and algebra. In social studies they are studying slavery, westward expansion and gearing up to fight the civil war in fifth grade.

Kenrose: Please remember fifth-grade promotion day is Thursday, May 20. Also, Kenrose ENCORE will be held July 19-23 at Kenrose Elementary School. Please mark your calendars for this great week of learning and fun. For more information, please call the Kenrose office.

Lipscomb: The students in Mrs. Lytle‘s and Mr. Peterson‘s fourth-grade math classes had a great time constructing geometric figures using compasses. They were all different and unique just like the kids. They also explored symmetry and made symmetrical pictures using scissors and colorful paper.

Scales: Our fifth grade will be treated to a hamburger and hot dog cookout at lunch time today. Leadership will meet at 3:35–5:00 p.m. Phoebe Moody’s kindergarten class welcomed three baby chicks this week after watching them closely in the incubator for 21 days. They will be going to live on the farm after this week.

Sunset: The first-grade students were excited to welcome Channel 4 weatherman / meteorologist Dan Thomas, to their school to review the knowledge gained through the science weather kit. Thomas used experimentation and a power point presentation to discuss areas related to weather.

Sunset Middle: We are proud to recognize our April and May Students of the Month. Since we failed to publish our March recipients, we will share their names here, as well. The student nominees for the month of March (Trustworthiness) are: sixth-graders Landon Tidwell and Maddi McLeland, seventh-graders Justin Harrell and Madison Dubbert, and eighth-graders Carter Ranson and Sarah LeFevre. April’s (Cooperation) awards go to sixth-graders Tom Zeman and Katelyn Cooper, seventh-graders Riley Lemon and Allie Clark and eighth-graders Quinn Avirom and Elizabeth Luke. May’s (Fairness) winners are sixth-graders Brendan Grainger and Madison Younginer, seventh-graders Corey Wu and Sydney Huddleston and eighth-graders Austin Hetherington and Savannah Richardson.

Woodland Middle: The chorus had a very successful competition in Chicago, bringing home two trophies and two individual medals. The eighth-grade show choir placed first in its division with the highest rating of superior and also received the highest musical honor possible as the overall winner in the junior high/middle school choir category. The chorus had two individual awards: Dyllan Wilson for his beat boxing, and Rachel Paschket for her gospel-style vocal solo. The chorus received the highest combined total points of any group in the competition … and that included both middle school and high school groups! Mrs. Chaney is so proud of these students. The seventh- and eighth-grade band and the jazz band also traveled to Chicago and battled with many other bands from over the nation. After a very good performance, the bands were both awarded second place in their class. The students performed brilliantly on stage. It was a great musical weekend!
