By JODI RALL For Brentwood Home Page You can “Make a Martin Center Connection” at an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6. The event is free and everyone’s invited – even if you’re not 50 yet.
Community members who have never visited or heard of the center are invited to learn how they can become involved with this valuable Brentwood resource. There will be demonstrations of yoga, Tai Chi and an open watercolor art class. Members of the Brentwood Historical Seniors and the center’s genealogy group – both of which meet at the center -- will be dressed in period costumes to answer questions about the sesquicentennial year of the Civil War.
The Martin Center is affiliated with FiftyForward, a nonprofit with a mission to enrich the lives of adults 50 and older. The Brentwood center, located at 960 Heritage Way close to the Brentwood Library, the Williamson County Indoor Sports Complex and The Heritage senior living community, offers over 60 programs per month, including exercise, social and artistic offerings and day-trip opportunities. Numerous services for and by seniors are also facilitated at the center.
The open house is also an opportunity for anyone in searching for a venue for a meeting, reception or other event to check it out. The center can be rented during evenings and weekends.
Membership is open to any Williamson County/southern Davidson County community member and requires only a nominal annual membership fee to join. It is conveniently located off Concord Road, with easy access of Interstate 65.
Christmas cards, handmade by center members raising funds for another van to assist members with transportation, will be on sale during the Open House.
