Right on point! I know that Franklin 1st UMC canceled their trip last year to stay home and help locally. Is it about the opportunity to travel, or is it about doing something truly productive? We recently got one of those seemingly ubiquitous "personal" fund raising letters asking for support for a mission trip to Sweden. Sweden??

The junior high youth at Brentwood Methodist will be working in Nashville this July rather than traveling. Being good stewards of your own funds should be part of any mission work.

There is no location in the United States where free manual laborers are needed that even comes close to the remote village in Honduras that a group from Holy Family visisted recently. To take the youth in Brentwood our of their 'bubble', or even the comforts of the USA, and show them how the majority of the world lives in poverty, might be more of a life-lesson than painting water damaged houses in Franklin. I can't imagine what the comments would be if these kids spent their travel money on nicer cars or spring break cruises.....

"There is no location in the United States where free manual laborers are needed that even comes close to the remote village in Honduras that a group from Holy Family visisted recently." Ever been to a reservation? You are arguing over variations of a theme - regardless of how our youth discover the rewards of a gift of service, then they will find their way to your village if it's a worthy cause.
