2009 RACE FOR THE CURE: Complete coverage
By SUSAN T. LEATHERS
Brentwood Home Page
An estimated 12,000 people crossed the finish line at the 2009 Greater Nashville Race for the Cure on Maryland Way in Brentwood Saturday, but none were happier to be there than the women -- and two men -- who ran under the two arches of pink balloons as breast cancer survivors. Hard Rock Cafe Nashville employees shouted words of encouragement as each approached the finish line and presented each with a red rose in honor of their accomplishment.
Some were marking 25 years or more of survivorship. Others are in the middle of their fight. One learned she had breast cancer three weeks ago. These photos represent only a handful of the survivors who completed the course.
Let their faces and expressions and hope inspire you as much as they did all who watched them cross the finish line and bid them good luck as they continue their journeys.
