BA baseball, track teams in state

Brentwood Academy's baseball team begins play in the Division II-AA state tournament Tuesday night, while the BA track teams will also be well represented at the Division II state meet.
BA's baseball team lost the opening game of the sectional series against Battle Ground Academy 7-2, but came back to defeat Battle Ground Academy 5-2 and 16-6 to win in three games.
The Eagles open play in the four-team Division II-AA state tourney at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday against Briarcrest at Wilson Central High School.
Games will continue on Wednesday in the double-elimination tourney, with the championship at noon Thursday at Wilson Central.
The Eagles track teams had 15 qualifying performances for the boys meet and 10 for the girls competition, held at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro as part of the TSSAA's Spring Fling.
Boys track
BA junior Bryson Lillard had the best qualifying time of 39.29 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles and the second-best time of 14.80 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles.
Eagles junior Weldon Garlington had the top qualifying distance in the long jump at 21 feet, 11 inches, while freshman teammate Phillip Booker also made state at 20-10.25.
Garlington will also run in the 400 meters after a 50.84-second run in the qualifier, and classmate Zeno Dupree (51.48) also will compete in the 400.
Junior William Baird (41-6.50) will compete in state in the triple jump, and sophomore Sam Roberson (9:54.15) will run the  3,200-meter race.
Brentwood Academy's 4x100-meter relay team is top-seeded with a time of 42.73 seconds, while the 4x400 and 4x800 relays also qualified.
BA senior Josh Tate (11.13 seconds) and teammate Joshua Pleasant (11.21) will both run the 100-meter dash. Pleasant (22.85 seconds) also made the 200-meter field along with BA sophomore Radir Annoor  (23.10).
Girls track
Senior Mary Conger  made the state for BA in three individual events:  long jump (17-6.50), 100 hurdles (14.89) and 300 hurdles (46.90).
Like the boys, the BA girls 4x100 relay is top-seeded with a qualifying time of 49.59 seconds. The Lady Eagles will also compete in the 4x200 and 4x800 relays.
Sophomore Leslye Williams will vie in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, with times of 12.64 and 26.27, respectively. Abbie Whitehurst has the team's best 200 qualifying time in 25.91 seconds.
BA sophomore Caylyn Harvey (2:23.86) will compete in the 800.
