For those who have never seen wheelchair basketball, it is a must see event. We are fortunate to have a local organization, ABLE Youth, that organized a regional qualifying tournament that was held at A-Game Sportsplex this past weekend. Teams traveled to Williamson County from Michigan, Nebraska, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina and Indiana.
When you first see these kids, you notice the cool, sporty wheel chairs and notice their condition. It pulls at your heart strings. Then the whistle blows, the game begins and the wheels start rolling.
As a spectator, the thought of kids being confined to chairs is instantly forgotten and we witness athletes in action. Dribbling, swerving, stopping, shooting and sweating. The competition is serious and the intensity of these athletes is all that is seen. The chairs disappear from your consciousness and the game is on.  The are playing to go to the Nationals in Denver.
You can find more information about ABLE Youth at itsr web site, www.ABLEYouth.org.
