Players went to hospital over weekend; rinks cleared for today's games
Brentwood Home Page news reports
A-Game Sportsplex is re-opening its ice rinks Tuesday afternoon following clearance from air-quality testing done after some hockey players went to the hospital over the weekend.

Wednesday night's high school games in the Greater Nashville Area Scholastic Hockey (GNASH) league will be played as scheduled, according Tim McAllister, director of hockey and ice operations at A-Game.

Practice was going to resume Tuesday after school, following Monday's cancellation of all ice activity while investigating possible problems. A-Game sent out an email release Tuesday afternoon to its patrons letting them know the source was founded and the problem eliminated.

"We just had a company, the Center for Toxicology and Environmental Health come in, and do their final check on everything," McAllister said. "So everything's come back outstanding. We're right where we need to be."

Rinks 1 and 2 were experiencing air quality issues that A-Game management believed was related to Zamboni operation.

"While this is not uncommon in ice rinks, we are taking this matter very seriously," A-Game officials said in Monday's message posted to the GNASH website.

Several hockey players went to the emergency room this past weekend "after a potential exposure to fumes while skating at A-Game," according to the GNASH website. McAlllister did not have a number on how many players sought treatment at the ER, and he believes all were released the same night.

"They we told to take a day off, just to stay away from physical activity," he said. "As far as I know they were looked at and released; they did a few tests but they were all released."

Brentwood High School is scheduled to play Hendersonville at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday at A-Game Rink 1, and Ravenwood vs. Centennial will follow at 8:10 p.m. on the same ice. Franklin-Pope John Paul II and FRA/USN-Blackman matches are scheduled on A-Game Rink 2.

"We will continue to assess our air quality to ensure top safety for our skaters, players and families," sA-Game's management said in Tuesday afternoon's email about resuming scheduled ice activities.
