Race for the Cure returns Oct. 29 Brentwood Home Page news reports Susan G. Komen for the Cure Greater Nashville’s new executive director Patty Harman will share her vision for the breast cancer research and prevention foundation as well as details on the 2011 Greater Nashville Race for the Cure which returns to Brentwood this fall when she addresses the Brentwood Cool Springs’ Women in Business on Thursday.
Harman has worked in non-profit organizations for the past 28 years. Seventeen of those years she has been in management, five as the executive director of High Hopes and 12 as the president and CEO of Monroe Harding, Inc. High Hopes is an early intervention program for children with special needs, and Monroe Harding, Inc. is an organization dedicated to creating independence in at-risk children, youth and families.
As an advocate for those without opportunities, Patty is on the board of Nashville Youth Alliance, the Jim Casey Youth Initiative. She also serves on two national boards for CEOs of human service organizations.
Locally she has served or is serving on the Association of Nonprofit Executives board, the Lockeland Springs Neighborhood Association, Friends of the Library, Tying Nashville Together, Rediscover East and the Center for Nonprofit Management. She is an active member of the Tennessee Association of Childcare, Middle Tennessee Association of Childcare, CABLE and Downtown Rotary.
The Race for the Cure is set for Oct. 29 in Maryland Farms. It will be the third time the race has taken place in Brentwood, and quickly became its largest one-day event in the city’s history bringing approximately 20,000 to the business park for the past two years.
The meeting begins at 11:30 am. at the FiftyForward Martin Center, 960 Heritage Way. The luncheon is $16 for chamber members and $28 for guests.
