Date corrected 8 a.m. Wednesday
Four to three.
That’s the new ratio of women to men on the Brentwood City Commission. For historical purposes, that’s the first time in the city's 41-year history that women have made up the majority.
Must admit I kind of like it.
A few weeks ago I interviewed retired commissioner Joe Reagan for a profile I am working on. His late wife Betty was the city’s first female commissioner. Years later he’s still so proud of the job she did. When she decided not to run for re-election, Joe – then just retired from his career with Kroger -- decided to give it a go. He won, and served the city well for almost 20 years.
It somehow seems appropriate that the torch is passed again, this time to a board that has reached another milestone.
Help us shape BHP's future!
Brentwood Home Page readers have a lot to look forward to in the weeks and months ahead. We’re working hard to expand our coverage, which is going to include several new columnists.
We’re not ready to make any public announcements but we think you’ll be pleased, especially if you love vino as much as we do. And while we’re adding features, we’d love to get your feedback on what we’re doing now and what you would like to see added, especially to our Business, Lifestyle, Community and Food & Drink sections.
We’re also revamping how we publish life’s “celebrations” like weddings, engagements, silver and golden anniversaries, Eagle and Gold scout announcements and other important life moments. And we're brainstorming future BHP Night at the Library topics. (You DO have 7 p.m. May 24 on your calendar, don't you? This month's topic is "Getting YOUR News in the News" and we'll be joined by NewsChannel 5, the Williamson Herald and hopefully a few more local media outlets to share tips on how to submit news releases, calendar items and story ideas to local news outlets -- and get them published.)
If you’d like to be part of an informal BHP focus group, please email me at susan@brentwoodhomepage.com. Be sure to include your name, age, address, telephone number and if you would prefer to be part of a daytime or evening group. If you’d prefer to be part of a virtual focus group, please do the same. Put BHP Focus Group in the subject line.
Can't wait to hear from you! |
