Well, it looks the Ravenwood’s Music4Music has done it again – launched the next country superstar, or in this case, superstars.
The Band Perry – siblings Kimberly, Neil and Reid – took home the Best New Artist award at the Academy of Country Music Awards Sunday night in Las Vegas. Their single “If I Die Young” was also up for Song of the Year. But all know this was Miranda Lambert's year so we'll excuse the voters this time around.
Can’t be happier for the band and hope they follow Taylor Swift, who rose to stardom right after her Music4Music appearance a few years ago. In fact, both Taylor and the Perrys received four ACM nominations this year.
Can’t wait to see who Grand Ole Opry GM Pete Fisher comes up with next year.
March Madness hits city hall Here’s some news for all of you city government wonks out there: Don’t head to the Municipal Building for the first-Monday-of-the-month Brentwood Planning Commission meeting tonight. You won’t find it.
As has become tradition, March Madness even takes over at city hall. The meeting has been pushed back until Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Wonder if all the planning commissioners had a NCAA Tournament bracket pool going? Can only hope each of theirs turned out better than mine. It was ugly, real ugly.
I’m hoping for Butler win tonight. How about you?
A few 'senior' moments A few weeks ago, while bank shopping, I discovered I qualified for a senior checking account at Brentwood-based Reliant Bank. I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry but I did scream. I also now qualify for official membership at the FiftyForward Martin Center (which I understand will have some big, BIG news to announce any day now). And then there’s the Senior Olympics.
The Greater Nashville District games take place throughout Williamson County May 9-14. The deadline to register is April 20.
At a kickoff luncheon at the Martin Center a few weeks ago, Gordon Hampton of the Williamson County Parks and Rec Department called the games “one of the best-kept secrets anywhere.” The best thing about the games is that all levels of “Olympians” compete in age categories that start at 50 and go to 95-plus.
Since I’ve just signed up for a Biggest Loser competition at a local gym, maybe training for one of the Senior Olympics events would be just the thing to help jump start me. I wonder how many calories shuffleboard, badminton or pickleball burn?
Alas, I don’t think I’d make it halfway down one pool lane at the Indoor Sports Complex for any of the swimming (50-, 100- and 200-yard distance) competitions. The track events will be held at Ravenwood, but one lap might kill me, much less the mile.
But shuffleboard; I think that’s doable. Maybe I can be the Biggest Winner. Maybe.
Seriously, if you want more info on the games, or are interested in volunteering in May or July, click here.
I’ll see you on the medal stand. |
