I’ve got better news than the Murray property finally getting a new owner. The first-ever BrentWord Mole Festival is coming, and it’s going to be a winner. Not since the Russian River Banana Slug Festival years ago in Sonoma County, Calif. has there been such an anticipated event.

Oh wait...

Alicia Helm, owner of Spruce Inspired Living and the main mover and shaker behind a new downtown festival we can call our own, just texted.

“Susan, as much as we know you want a Mole Festival, the committee has decided to call our great new event Town Center Saturdays. The first one will be April 16!”

OK, that’s not exactly how it went down.

But readers of this column, both here in BHP and previously in The Tennessean’s Brentwood Journal, know I’ve been lobbying for a festival we can call our own for years. Not since the old Pear Fest has Brentwood had an event like this.

And now we will. Maybe pigs DO fly.

It’s going to be a busy six weeks for the all-volunteer committee that’s been working almost a year on the project.

We’ll have a lot more details next week, but for now, circle your calendars and plan to attend this family friendly, free event in the heart of Brentwood’s Town Center.

BHP hopes to sign on as a sponsor. If they’ll let us sell mole traps – or perhaps sponsor a mole recipe contest -- we’re definitely in.

Call for Lego donations
Have a few million unused Legos stashed in a trunk or toy chest or closet? Sunset Elementary School is forming a new after school Legos Club and needs, you guessed it, Legos.

If you want to make a donation, Ravenwood High is collecting them. You can drop them off in a collection bin in the school’s front office. I’m sure you can also take them to Sunset.
