Brentwood Home Page news reports Micah Children’s Academy, a preschool for children aged six weeks to five years, will hold its first spring festival with a celebration of the arts at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 3.
The festival, which is open to the public, will feature a student musical performance, a silent auction of student art work, activities for children and opportunities for parents to learn about the Academy’s philosophy and practice of early childhood education.
Micah Children’s Academy, 2001 Old Hickory Blvd., is owned and operated by Congregation Micah, a reform Jewish synagogue. The school, which opened in August and has a capacity for 83 students, welcomes children of all faiths and cultures.
“Our spring festival is a great opportunity to experience the uniqueness of Micah Children’s Academy,” said Academy director Lynn Heady, former director of curriculum and instruction for Williamson County Schools.
Families are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner and blanket to spread out on the lawn. Drinks and dessert will be provided. Family tickets are $25; individual tickets are $10.
The spring festival will show off several of the Academy’s assets – its strong music, art and reading programs, and the opportunities it provides children to explore the natural world.
The musical was orchestrated by the Academy’s music teachers, Beckie LaBounty and Lisa Silver, a professional songwriter and Congregation Micah’s music director. The performance will showcase songs written by the students themselves. These songs have been compiled in a CD, which can be purchased for $10.
Children attending the festival also will be able to try out the Academy’s eco-friendly outdoor playscape under their parents’ supervision. The playscape features natural sand and water play, hills, pathways, trees and open space.
“Indoors or outside, Micah Children’s Academy’s safe, developmentally-appropriate play and learning environments reinforce children’s natural curiosity and imagination, while allowing them to experience challenges and successes,” said Julie Greenberg, Congregation Micah’s education director.
Please RSVP to Assistant Academy Director Theresa LePore if you are planning to attend by calling 942-5162 or e-mailing her at tlepore@micahchildrensacademy.org.
