Andrea Exil
Andrea Exil, a senior lacrosse player at Ravenwood, not only loves lacrosse, but also the books, and has a deep passion for painting.
"My father (Vernat) is Haitian and my mother (Ann) is Malaysian Indian. So, I am a half Haitian, half Malaysian Indian, so I have many experiences to paint about," says Andrea. Many of her works are displayed in the halls of Ravenwood.
The lacrosse team captain plays low defense and has an extensive stat list from her senior year, including 2 assists, 7 shots, 6 goals, 15 draw controls, 49 ground balls and 58 forced turnovers. Andrea will miss her lacrosse teammates dearly after this season, but admits leaving her coach will be the hardest.
"Coach Taylor has motivated me to reach for my potential. She taught me to always stay strong, to never give up,and to have faith -- not only in myself, but in my teammates as well. My drive for this sport has multiplied because of her love and dedication to this team. Her expectations of me have pushed me to excel in both my defensive skills as well as my leadership skills," Andrea says.
"I never expected to be a captain, but she had faith that I could help lead the team. I am convinced that I would not be the lacrosse player I am today were it not for her motivation, passion and motto: 'Play the game from start to finish.' I am honored to have had Colleen Taylor as a great mentor as well as a great coach, and will honestly miss her as I go to college."
Andrea will be attending Purdue University in Indiana in the fall with the intentions of becoming an aeronautical/aerospace engineer. She is also a member of Mu Alpha Theta, National Honors Society and the Art Club.

Angelina Qin
It takes many qualities to be a good tennis player, and Brentwood High senior Angelina Qin has them all. At No. 1 singles Angelina will compete in the regional semifinals this week, where she is predicted to win and advance to the state tournament.
Last year she made it to state, and her freshman year she won the state title at No. 5 singles. Angelina also went undefeated in her freshman, sophomore and junior years.
Angelina competes year-round in tournaments throughout the South. She is currently ranked No. 2 in Tennessee and No. 116 in the South, which encompasses 10 states, in girls 18s. She has received many offers from colleges to play on their team, including the University of Richmond and Wake Forest, but Angelina has decided to attend Butler University in Indiana, on a full academic scholarship. She will also play on their tennis team as a walk-on.
Angelina started competing rather late in the eyes of the tennis world, due to her involvement with piano and dancing. For eight years she participated in Piano Guild Auditions as a National Member where she would memorize 10 pieces to perform in front of judges. She has already received a high school diploma in Social Music. Angelina was also a dancer from age 5 till 13, which explains her grace on the tennis court.
She is on the Teen Advisory Board for the Brentwood Library, where she has volunteered for five years, and is active with Habitat for Humanity.
Angelina credits her coach, Andy Veal, for her continued success in tennis, and says she greatly appreciates her dad Wang-Fu Qin as a constant support at all of her matches.

C.J. Shane
As the glory days of C.J. Shane's high school career come to an end this week, he proudly admits his fondest memory and greatest accomplishment.
It isn't the knowledge gained from his wonderful teachers, or fun times with friends during school pep rallies. It is, without a doubt, "on April 30 when the Ravenwood lacrosse team beat Brentwood 15-11," C.J. says. He and his teammates were so intense in the game that C.J. confesses giving a Brentwood player a concussion and not realizing it until after the game.
C.J., who plays defense, had year-end stats of 13 ground balls, 6 takeaways and, his favorite, 1 interception against Brentwood. His junior year C.J. was voted the team defensive MVP and made the all-region and all-state teams. He also had the most ground balls in Middle Tennessee with 85.
C.J. has signed to play lacrosse for Mars Hill College near Asheville, N.C., on an athletic scholarship. He is unsure of his major, but whatever his career choice he wants to coach lacrosse on the side. Currently he is a coach for the Raptors Youth Lacrosse team. C.J. is also very involved with Young Life, golf and loves going to the lake to wakeboard.
"Ravenwood has been such a huge part of my family's life, we are really going to miss it," C.J. says. "My mom (Jenny) and dad (John) have cheered me on at every game."
All of C.J.'s lacrosse coaches have had positive impacts on his life, but Coach Clyde, the strength and conditioning coach, stands out as a favorite. "He has taught me how to be a better person off the field, which makes me a better player on the field."

Alex Howard
Alex Howard, a sophomore at Brentwood High, comes from one of Brentwood's premier sports families and is taking care of business for the BHS tennis team.
The regional championship team will be competing at state next week, but Alex must face his toughest competition, as well as practice partner, Sean Karl from Ravenwood, to advance to state. Only the winner moves on. Unfortunately, the two are among the highest ranked players in the South, but must compete in the same school district. As a freshman Alex won the state doubles title.
On the USTA circuit Alex is nationally ranked in the boys 18s -- at age 16. He was ranked No. 1 in the South in the boys 14s and No. 12 in the South in the 16s. Currently his ranking is No. 49 in the South, playing up in the 18s.
Alex has a 5-star recruiting rating -- the highest -- and is in the top 50 in the nation for the class of 2012. This, in conjunction with his 4.4 GPA, will ensure a wonderful choice of colleges.
This summer Alex will compete in the nation's top tournaments, and at home he will practice at Wildwood with his coach, Andy Veal.
"Andy has helped me set achievable goals and has focused on specific areas of my game," Alex says. "I really look forward to practicing at Wildwood this summer with Sean and Maxx Lipman (a top nationally ranked BHS freshman not on the team)."
Alex has three younger siblings -- Meg, Will, and Robby -- who are great at all sports, and his mom Beth and dad Tim are also excellent tennis players. His grandfather is ranked No. 7 in the South in the 70s age division.
