Megan Goss
Ravenwood's top senior swimmer, Megan Goss has more swimming and academic accolades than space for her story will permit!Megan is an All American in the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, and 200 medley relay. She is a national qualifier in the 800 meter freestyle and 200 meter breaststroke.Megan is also the record holder in Williamson County and Ravenwoodfor the 500 freestyle and 200 IM.Most impressive is the fact that last year she missed the Olympic Trials by a mere .5 second.
The 4.5 honors student will attend Northwestern University on an athletic scholarship this Fall, where she will major in pre-med studies. In her spare time, Megan serves as Vice-President of the Math Honor Society, is a swim instructor for Swim America, and is a Summer League Coach for the Brentwood Barracudas.Megan gives credit to her coaches, Morse and Charlie, at the Nashville Aquatic Club (NAC), for "going after my first National cut, and inspiring me to do well in and out of the pool."
"I am so thankful for my parents who have not only encouraged and believed in me, but drove me to ALL my practices, including the countless 5:00 am ones, and comforted me when races didn't go too well.I am also so thankful for my brother Alex, who inspires me daily with his work ethic and determination."Alex, who also swims on the Ravenwood team, can keep up with his sister now, which Megan comments with a laugh, is the reason for her faster times this year, "I have to stay in front of him!"
Logan Klinsky
Freshman swimmer, Logan Klinsky is BrentwoodHigh School's pick for their Athlete of the Week.Logan had huge success at the Excel Invitational/Williamson County Championship meet. She placed 2nd in the 100 free, 2nd in the 200 free relay, and 3rd in the 200 IM relay where she posted her fastest time of 2:18.The results gave Logan all state qualifying times, which enables her to compete in any race where BHS swim coach Ginny Maher places her.
Logan likes to swim fast and wants to devote more time to specializing in the 50 and 100 freestyle. She swims year round for Excel Aquatics based out of the Indoor Sports Complex.During the Summer Logan swims for two teams, Excel and Maryland Farms, which keeps her in the pool for about 5 - 6 hours a day.Logan's current swim coach, Kate Chronic has impacted her success Logan states because, "she is honest and will tell me what I did wrong. But, she will also tell me how to fix it.Most coaches never take the time to do that."
Since Logan is not even close to driving age, her parents Larry and Trenda make sure she never misses a practice. She has two younger brothers, Noah 13 and Spence who is in 5th grade at Scales.Logan's cousin is her idol, who just received a scholarship to swim for Auburn, but turned it down picking LSU instead. For the next three years Logan has one goal in mind, swimming for Texas or Auburn.
Grant Stafford
Who has a wingspan of 6'8” and consumes up to 5000 calories a day? No, not Michael Phelps. It’s Grant Stafford, the star freshman swimmer from Ravenwood. It has been a great season for the first place Ravenwood swim team, and Grant has excelled in his first year of high school competition.
In last week's County meet Grant placed second in the 100 free, 100 back, and third in the 200 IM relay. He swam his fastest times in the meet also, posting 48.71 in the 100 free and 54.69 in the 100 back. In the upcoming regional and state meets Grant plans on competing in the 100 back and 500 free.
Among his many swimming accomplishments, in his relatively short career, Grant has been selected twice for the USA Southeastern Swimming Zone Team, and last year finished in the nation's top 10 for the 100 & 200 back, and top 20 for the 50 free.
Grant’s rigorous training schedule during the school year usually includes a 5 a.m. workout, a full day of school, then back in the water from 4:00 - 6:30. On Saturdays, when there are no meets, he practices from 7:00 - 10:30.
He started with the Excel team at 10 years old, and has loved every coach he has ever had, "but one coach that really made an impression on me was Mark Krimm. He coached me when I was 11 and 12, and really got me absorbed in the sport." Grant also has the advantage of having athletic parents, Jeff and Pam Stafford. Jeff was a standout college athlete in basketball and track, and was recently inducted into the Marietta College Athletic Hall of Fame.
Grant's college ambition is to swim for a major university.
Brian Bolton
All-American swimmer Brian Bolton is entering the most important month of his career. The senior, and captain of the Brentwood High Swim Team, will compete in the high school regional, state, and club meets, beginning this Friday and continuing every other weekend through February, with most of the college recruiting beginning after the results of these meets are in.He also mentioned February 10 as being the biggest day of the month - the John Mayer concert he can't wait to attend.
Brian hopes above all to be a walk on for the University of Texas swim team, but he has been recruited by Texas A&M, North Carolina, Duke and Clemson. In conjunction with his All American title, which he achieved with a 50.96 time in the 100 back, he has a record time in the 200 IM of 1:57.51, and took first place in the County meet in the 100 breast stroke with a time of 101.24.Brian and his coaches predict he should have one of the fastest times in the state competition in the 100 back and 200 IM.
Brian has a 4.0 GPA, is a member of the National Honor Society (science), the Interact Club, and enjoys cooking, traveling and learning languages.Brian has swum with NAC since the 7th grade, and was selected to the Southeastern Zone Team and named captain for the past two years. "Coach Krimm and Coach Morse have had such a great impact on my swimming.Morse always shows personal interest in swimmers and Krimm's personality is a consistent reminder that we should always have fun swimming."
Keith and Angela Bolton have two younger sons, Douglas and Matthew who play hockey at Father Ryan.
