Kathryn Ervin

Kathryn Ervin, a sophomore cheerleader for Ravenwood, and the entire cheerleading team are gearing up for their National Competition in Louisville this weekend.

Jamie Katolick, the Varsity Cheer Coach states, "Katherine has worked so hard this week perfecting her standing tuck and back handspring tuck to improve the overall squad score for Nationals." She also says, "Kathryn works so hard during practices and is always on time and ready to work."

Kathryn has been busy cheering on the Basketball teams through their District tournaments, and next week on to the Regionals. She has been cheering since Kindergarten, though not competitively team until high school.
Kathryn also dances with a competitive dance team at Legacy Dance Studio, and has been there since 1st grade. Practice for both entails 2 - 3 hours 5 times a week.
The Ervin Family includes parents Jodi and Tom and brother Jonathan who is a senior at Ravenwood. The family adopted a little girl from China four years ago and little Elayna, or "Mei Mei" is the light of their lives.

Kathryn loves having her come watch her cheer at all the games, always sporting a little Ravenwood cheer outfit like her big sis. In the few hours a week Kathryn has to spare she is teaching herself how to play the guitar using online instruction. She also secretly wishes to try out for American Idol!

Katherine Schenck

Katherine Schenck, a sophomore runner at Brentwood High School is the school's top Varsity Cross Country runner by almost two minutes. Her last season's results were second in the Williamson County Meet, third in the Regional Meet, and 29th in the State finals.

Had Katherine not been running on a broken foot, no doubt the 29th place would probably have been higher. Her foot was unfortunately injured at the Regional Meet. It has been four months since Katherine has been able to run, but has been cleared for track season, which starts in March.
Katherine runs the mile and two mile events for the BHS track team, and hopes to include the 4 x 800 relay, and 800 events this year. She has been training with Gary Kinder since last summer to improve in the 800.
For the past four months Katherine has been swimming to keep in shape. She swam competitively for 8 years, and Katherine and her dad Mike also love to compete in triathlons. Mike has completed 2 Iron Man Triathlons, and Katherine would love to attempt something of that caliber.
Her dad also coaches her, designs workout schedules, and is an encouraging force in all her endeavors.
The Schenck Family moved to Brentwood one year ago from the Chicago area, and Katherine definitely likes it better in the South. When not running she loves to play the clarinet and piano.

Tevin Matich

The most powerful member of the Ravenwood Basketball Team "Power Trio" is undoubtedly senior shooting guard Tevin Matich. The Trio, including Tevin, Evan, and Devin has taken care of business this year and will be playing for the District Championship this week against Franklin.

Throughout the District tournament Tevin scored on average 14 points a game. The Raptors have already gained a spot in the Regional tournament starting on Saturday, which Tevin states sadly could be the last time he plays.

One of the highlights of the games for Tevin is when his 9 year old brother Legend, or "Lego" rebounds for him while he practices shooting before games. Lego is also the little guy who races out during half time to shoot 3 pointers for the crowd.
Tevin will be attending the University of Tennessee/ Knoxville in the Fall where he hopes to receive a degree in business. He will be rooming with his best bud from the team, Thomas Allen.

Tevin works at the Foot Locker where the perks are better than the pay check. Tevin states gleefully, "I have more shoes than there are days in a month!"

Between basketball and working Tevin has no spare time to get his contacts, and he prefers to play blind instead of wearing glasses. "it's all a blur, I can't see a thing. I just listen for the roar of the crowd after I shoot. I've often wondered what I'd play like if I could see."

The world will never know.

Paul Stuart

Paul Stuart, a sophomore Cross Country runner is one of the best long distance runners Brentwood High School has seen in years. He also runs for the Track Team, but favors the longer mile and two-mile events.

Paul's best time for a 5k race was at the Foot Locker Southern Regionals with a time of 16:12
Last season, he placed second in the Region and 20th in the state for Cross Country.

In track, Paul was the only freshman to compete and placed 7th in the two-mile run. With track season just around the corner, Brentwood High School looks to be a strong contender to win state, having placed second last year.
Paul runs 55 plus miles a week, usually at Percy Warner and Edwin Warner Parks. He started training with Coach Guy Avery at the end of August last year and feels Avery has been key to his success.
"Coach Avery has trained and taught me to run at my best level,” said Stuart. “He is always so encouraging to me."
The Stuart family as a whole are accomplished runners. Paul’s two older sisters Kathryn, a Freshman and Emmie, a Senior both attend and run for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Paul's mom ran for Auburn University, and still loves to train.
When Paul isn't running he attends the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and loves to play the guitar.
