Lydia Wright
Lydia Wright, a junior at Ravenwood splits her time between basketball and volleyball.She is a point guard on the young Ravenwood basketball team and has an amazing 70% free throw average. Lydia also scores 11 points and has 5 rebounds per game.Her highest scoring game - 17 points, was against Hillsboro a few weeks ago, and she feels each game she is getting better.
Her parents, Tommy and Tricia stay busy attending all of her games, including her travel team games.She is on year round travel teams for both basketball and volleyball.Lydia credits her Ravenwood coaches, Coach Brock and Coach Berry for her success.She also points out, "my travelvolleyball coach, Kathy Roulhac is extremely tough all the time.That has made me try my hardest all the time too, not just slack off in practice, 100% effort all the time."
Lydia maintains a 3.8 GPA and is wanting to attend a Division 1 college and play either basketball or volleyball.She would like to major in something that keeps her in the athletic field or Lydia would also like to do something in Ministry.During her rare time off Lydia loves to hang out with her church friends at LifeCommunityChurch and is active in her youth group.She is also a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a Freshman Mentor.Something no one know about Kylia is that she eats Cocoa Krispies cereal all the time!
Kyla Kerstetter Kyla Kersetter's impressive basketball career started at home with her dad TK. "My dad has spent countless hours coaching me and just shooting hoops with me in our driveway since I was a little kid." Her entire family is very athletic. Sherri, her mom runs triathlons and marathons, and her sister Kerie is a record holder at Brentwood High in track and soccer.
Kyla, a junior at Brentwood high, plays guard and post positions. She averages 22 points and 10 rebounds per game. Most impressive are the results from Kyla's AAU travel team, TN Team Pride Flight, which placed 2nd in the Nation at the National AAU Tournament this past Summer. Brentwood High Coach, Ronnie Seigenthaler (Coach Seig), has been her driving force on and off the court. "He knows me so well, he knows exactly what pushes me, whatever mood I'm in and makes me better."
Though only a junior, Kyla has her sights set on playing basketball for a school with a good academic reputation. She has received many recruiting letters starting in her sophomore year. On top of practicing, training, and games every day usually till 8:00 pm, Kyla maintains a 4.3 GPA, is an active member of Habitat for Humanity, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and works at Divas and Dudes - a children's birthday party place and salon.
Look for Kyla this week as the BHS team takes on rivals Centennial and Ravenwood.
Matt Richardson
The Ravenwood Basketball Team will be losing 5 valuable Seniors at the end of the season, one being Matt Richardson.The Raptors had their Senior Night last Friday and Matt says the group is close, and all of them are graduating with scholarships to play basketball.Matt has received many recruitment letters, and is still undecided, but AugustanaCollege in Rock Island, Il is his current first choice.One of his best games of the season was Saturday night against first place Hillsboro.Matt scored 18 points, had 3 assists, and the Raptors won 73-59.He averages 12 points and 4 assists per game, and is looking forward to Fridays game against rival Brentwood High.
Matt's family moved to Brentwood from Illinois where most of their family lives, and Matt continues to play with his AAU team - Taba Team, from Chicago.He spends the Summers there and a few weekends during the school year.His dad, Tom Richardson is the Assistant Coach for the Vanderbilt Men's Basketball Team.Being the son of a college basketball coach has its perks.Matt remembers when he was 9 years old NBA great, Dwyane Wade had dinner at his house on a recruiting trip.His mom Nancy is busy planning his older sister's upcoming wedding, which Matt is very excited to be in.
One the weekends Matt coaches a group of his friends' 18U YMCA basketball team. "It's totally for fun", he says, "I've always got to be playing basketball."
James Cox
James Cox, a junior guard on the Brentwood High Basketball team has a large future in store, whether it is being a comedian, a master of the Martial Arts, an Equestrian, or a Hall of Fame Basketball Player. He has high ambitions to conquer all of these things, as well as going to Business School to "make a lot of money".
Right now though, James is extremely focused on the week ahead - Rival Week, with games against Centennial on Tuesday, and Ravenwood on Friday night, the final game. Both games are at home for the Bruins. According to sources wanting to remain anonymous, "Many Brentwood High students steer clear of James in the halls during Rival Week. He is SO intense and pumped up! No one would dare wear red and black, I just can't imagine what he would do." Usually though, James is beloved by all who know him.
Coach Dennis King tries to keep James under control till he gets out on the court, where James averages 9 points and 4 rebounds per game. Tony Tompson has been James' AAU coach since 8th grade with the Tennessee Edge Team. "Both my coaches have helped me grow a lot as a player."
James has a big family, Wendy and Larry Cox are his parents, and he has a 20 year old sister Katherine and a twin sister Jessica. He also has three dogs. Jessica does not play basketball, but does work at Divas and Dudes with Kyla Kerstetter. James enjoys "holdin' it down" at Divas and Dudes on the weekends.
