Demetrics Brown

Football, wrestling

Demetrics Brown is a senior at BHS. Playing nose guard on the varsity football team, he is a well-respected young man and athlete. In addition to playing football Demetrics is a member of the wrestling team.

“My wrestling coach, Coach Blair, knows my limits between play and when it’s time to go to work,” Demetrics said. Coach is one of his favorite people for helping him succeed.

With aspirations of becoming an athletic trainer with a minor in science, Demetrics is still narrowing his college plans down at this time. UT-Chattanooga has been one option he is currently eyeing.

Demetrics’ biggest fan is his mom, Barbara Brown. With a heart for service, this young man volunteers in the community at a farm owned by a member of his church.

What does Demetrics enjoy listening to on his iPod that might surprise some people? Country music, in particular the Zach Brown Band is his favorite.

Alexis Spahn
Volleyball

Alexis Joyce Spahn is a junior at BHS and is Athlete of the Week for her outstanding effort on the volleyball team.

“I’ve had the opportunity to be instructed by some amazing coaches. Jeff Wismer coached me in the past year at Alliance Volleyball Club. He was a great mentor as an athlete, encouraging me to play without fear,” Alexis said.

Outside of school Alexis is a referee for a youth volleyball league and volunteers at the Senior Olympics and Special Olympics.

“If I had to pick a favorite teacher it would be Mr. Adams. He was extremely supportive and all last year brightened my days with his class,” Alexis said.

With hopes of playing volleyball in college, Alexis intends to study pre-pharmacy. As of yet she has not decided on a college.

A fun fact Alexis shared about the volleyball team is “We do three cheers to get us pumped up!”

Davis Baxter
Golf

Davis Baxter, a sophomore at RHS and a member of the golf team, has an average score of 34 this year and just won the District 11-AAA tournament. As a freshman Davis qualified for regionals and came in fifth in districts.

A highlight in his golf game was scoring a hole-in-one while playing with fellow golf buddy Jared Walker at Nashville Golf & Athletic Club.

With aspirations to play college golf at Auburn University, Davis will spend the next few years fine-tuning his game. Long term he potentially sees himself as a professional golfer. Davis is up for the challenge as he loves the game and has the discipline needed to reach his goals.

Davis credits Vicki Chandley for helping him improve his swing. RHS golf coach Daniel Hollandsworth is someone that Davis both looks up to and respects for being a great coach.

Mackenzie Kastner

Soccer

Mackenzie Kastner, a junior soccer player at Ravenwood, began playing varsity as a freshman. This season she has scored on a penalty kick and also scored the winning goal in sudden death against Independence.

Having played soccer for 13 years, Mackenzie plays competitive travel soccer for the Brentwood Soccer Club.

Mackenzie says that “Ajit Korgaokar my club soccer coach taught me that you have to work in order to achieve your goals. Success isn’t handed to you, it is earned.”

With aspirations to play Division I soccer at an SEC school, Mackenzie realizes that she will indeed to have to work hard the next two years to achieve that goal.

Mom Jodi and Dad Berry along with sisters Brittany and Kristen support her love of soccer.

A “foot shake” is something that Mackenzie and fellow teammate Emma Rose do as a ritual before each game.

Conner Lunsford
Football

Conner Lunsford is a senior at BA and a member of the varsity football team. This young man stays busy with his football schedule and still manages time to play the saxophone, participate in FCA and the student leadership team and school musicals. Outside of school he also has been a youth counselor at several church camps.

Conner has been playing middle linebacker since his junior year. His coach, Coach Elliot, is also one of his favorite teachers. “He helped me grow both academically and athletically during my time at BA. His enthusiasm has helped me to grow both on the field and in the classroom,” Conner said.

The college decision-making process looms ahead for Conner as he is actively visiting and narrowing his search. Duke is the first choice on the list; however, a few of his other choices include Tennessee and Texas A&M. Conner plans on being a walk-on at whatever school he ultimately decides to attend.

Parents Christine and Todd and sisters Jacqueline and Cosette are his biggest fans.

Kara Anderson
Soccer, softball

Kara Anderson is a junior at BA and a member of the soccer team. She enjoys playing soccer and although the season has had its ups and downs, the overall experience “is amazing.”

She also plays softball for BA and basketball in her church league. Off the field Kara has been a part of People to People Ambassador Programs and went to Brazil. Serving on the student leadership team Kara has also served on a mission trip to Hondorus.

“Coach Elliott has been an example to me in his patience and willingness to help. He has greatly helped me academically,” Kara said. Her favorite class would have to be history. When she has down time Kara loves to get lost in a book, and she also loves to draw and paint.

Kara’s highest ambition has been to attend Princeton. However, attending a smaller school like Davidson or James Madison is on her short list to consider.

Kara shared an interesting fact about herself in that she is a “quad.” If you Google her name and quadruplets, you will find she and her three brothers on the world’s list of quadruplets. With another younger brother in seventh grade Kara is surrounded by boys at home.
