Robby Graves

Robby Graves has only been swimming for four years, and last year as a sophomore gained All-American status in the 500m.  Having recently moved to Brentwood from the Sacramento, CA area, Robby is known around BHS for his laid back Cali swagger.

In the pool he is one of the top swimmers in the state, competing last summer at the US Nationals in the 800m, and qualifying for the elite Olympic trial camp in Colorado.   Robby’s focus is winning state for BHS, and also swimming at the Olympic trials at the end of next summer.

Coach Mark Walker at excel swimming has had a huge influence in motivating Robby.  His dream college scenario would be to swim for Cal-Berkley and to major in business.  He has been recruited by many colleges including Air Force, but Robby states anywhere West Coast sounds good.

Alllison Maher

BHS junior Allison Maher is an All-American in the 100m breaststroke, and has high hopes of qualifying for the Olympic trial cuts.  She has been on the Southern all star zone team, and has traveled as far as Long Beach, CA to compete in the Speedo Grand Invitational.

Allison is also the BHS record holder in the 100 breaststroke, and is a 2 time state finalist for the 100 breaststroke.  For the past 12 years she swam for NAC.

Allison has a passion for horses and jumping almost as much as swimming, but a tragic accident last summer sidelined her for almost a year.  She was jumping last August when her horse threw her off breaking her back.  Allison was immobilized for almost four months.  Luckily the best physical therapy for her back was swimming.  By spring, Allison was ready to compete in swimming, and got a new horse named Gracie.

College ambitions for Allison are to swim for a Division 1 school – hopefully Auburn, and get a teaching degree in Special Education

Ravenwood High School’s girls soccer team advanced to Region 6-AAA final against District 11-AAA rival Franklin, which routed McGavock 11-0 Tuesday. The Lady Raptors took down Overton High School to advance with an 8-0 victory on Tuesday night.

The opening goal was scored by sophomore midfielder Bridget Hamway.  Defensive back, Austin Barrett, scored the Lady Raptors second goal with a long shot from 20 yards out.

Senior Jordan Cassidy scored the RHS third goal with a header off of an assist from defensive back Maddie Lindley.  To finish the half, sophomore Shelby Todd scored with a header off of senior Sarah Jenner’s free kick.
The Raptors went to halftime with a 4-0 lead over Overton.

In the second half, Todd scored her second goal off a Becca Roberts assist.  Sophomore Ali Saldler scored two goals in the second half and Emma Rose scored the Raptors final goal of the evening.  Eleanor Leffler and Rose also claimed assists to help the Raptors.

Goalies Rose Hull, Lindsey Todd and Audrey Sanderson combined for the shutout in the goal.
Ravenwood and Franklin will play in Thursday's regional final and also advance into Saturday's sectionals.

The Lady Raptors take on Franklin tonight at 6 p.m. at Franklin in the region final.  The region champion will host the 5-AAA runner-up in the sectional.

Ravenwood Lady Raptors Volleyball Team

The Lady Raptors volleyball team is headed to the TSSAA Class AAA state tournament this week, following its 25-8, 25-10, 25-10 home win against Portland.

Ravenwood (45-8) will play Karns High School (57-5) in the first match of the state tournament at 9 a.m. Oct. 27 at Middle Tennessee State University.

On Tuesday, at Nashville’s McGavock High School, District 11’s Ravenwood and Independence volleyball teams outscored their District 12 opponents – McGavock and Hillwood, respectively -- in their Region 6-AAA semi-final matches.

That set up a familiar match up in the regional final as the two Williamson County schools faced off once again for the championship.

Three Ravenwood players have made the Region 6 all tournament team; Micaela Bailey, Madelyn Huston, and Alyssa Ivey who was chosen as the MVP.

Taylor Davis

BA junior Taylor Davis finished up the golf season as fourth in the region shooting a 72.  He admits being not so thrilled with the outcome as he finished second in the state last year with a 70.75 average.

Taylor is the number two-ranked golfer on the BA team behind last year’s state champion Dylan Healey.

This summer Taylor plans on competing in more national AJGA tournaments and does all his practicing at the Nashville Golf Club.

A total sports fanatic, Taylor sadly had to drop other sports to concentrate on golf and school.  Undecided for college, he would like to attend a Division 1 college and hopes to play golf too.

Taylor’s career choice is either aeronautics or architecture, but playing pro golf is not out of the question if he can qualify.

Taylor is the only family member to play golf.  His parents are Keith and Wendy Davis and his sister Olivia is in eighth grade.

A highlight in Taylor’s life was in 2005 – he was a ball boy for the University of Florida’s basketball team’s National Championship game and got to attend Billy Donavon’s after game speech.

Ali Harper

After playing volleyball since 7th grade, Ali Harper a senior at BA, felt incredibly empty after their last game.

“Each game up till the end got harder, but I played harder too,” Ali states.

Her position was front middle hitter, and she spent years playing on the Select travel team as well as the BA teams as a starter.

Ali has already decided to attend the University of Mississippi next fall and will major in broadcast journalism.  She is an active member of the BA student counsel, and spends time with her youth group at church.

Ali is the only child of Ed and Sharon Harper, but has tons of family who live within ten miles of each other.  She hopes that will ease the blow to her mom when she leaves for college.  Another person Ali will dearly miss next year is Colonel Bradford, a BA past dean and staple in the school.

“We have developed a close relationship.  He comes to all our games and most practices.  He is a wonderful support for BA.”

Some readers might recognize Ali from her modeling campaigns.  She is currently one of the main models for le sport sac and her face is on billboards and ads all over the world.

Jim Chapman, the BA swim coach and art teacher, recently spotted one of her giant billboards during a mission trip in China.
