Ty Osmon
Ty Osmon is one of our few repeat Athletes of the Week, having been chosen for his outstanding bowling season last November, and this week for his performance in track. Ty runs the 110-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 17 seconds. He also has a best time of 52.4 seconds in the 400-meter run.
The most disturbing thing about Ty running hurdles is the fact that he is legally blind – as in he can’t see the biggest letter on the eye chart. When he stops growing he can get Lasik surgery done. Until then he has contacts, which must work.
The person Ty will miss most when he graduates is Coach Ronnie Seigenthaler. “Coach Seig is so inspirational to me. No one wants to let him down so you make sure you do your very best whenever he’s around.”
Ty has a 4.24 GPA, placing him in the top 10% of his graduating class. He has about 24 hours left to decide on a college, but likes Harding and the academic scholarship they are offering him.

Brittany Alexander
This is only Brittany’s second year to run track, and she is already fourth in the state in the 800-meter run. Her personal records include: 20:08 in the 5K, 5:26 in the 1600, and 2:22 in the 800.
Brittany credits her cross country coach, Kelly Rowe, for her success in both sports. “Mrs. Rowe has been a great influence in my life. She makes running fun and pushes me to perform at my highest level – especially when it hurts the most. She has created a fun family atmosphere the entire team enjoys.”
Brittany would like to run on a track or cross country team at a small university, possibly Furman. She has a 4.17 GPA and would like to major in psychology.

Tony Henning
When polled about the favorite student at Ravenwood, students and faculty pick Tony Henning. Tony is a senior and is a pitcher on the baseball team.
In past summers Tony has pitched for the Ravenwood summer baseball league – The Dirt Bags, but will probably hang up the ol’ cleats to get ready for college.
Tony will be attending the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and majoring in logistics.
Another favorite pastime of Tony’s is playing basketball on the YMCA league team – The Tennessee Tropics, a highly competitive team coached by fellow RHS senior Robert Veal.
Tony admitted in his fun fact that he is truly terrified of birds. All kinds, in all places. The little ones especially make his skin crawl and head for the safety of indoors.

Ashley Beyke
The Ravenwood softball team has a huge week playing two vital district games before heading into the district playoffs beginning May 9. The team is lead by junior pitcher Ashley Beyke, last year’s District 11-AAA MVP.
Her stats for this year include state rank of 14, winning percentage of .727 pitching, 10 games started, 4 shutouts, on-base average of .265. Ashley also plays travel softball for the Nashville Cruisers, and her pitching coach is Sherri Dickens.
Ashley Beyke is also a standout basketball star for RHS and helped lead her team to the regional finals, scoring 14 points and sinking four 3-pointers in the third quarter of the semifinal game against Overton. As a guard she averages 8 points a game, but loves sinking the 3-pointers best.
Ashley’s college ambition is to play softball while majoring in science and maintaining a 4.0 GPA, but has not made any decisions as to where yet. If at all possible Ashley would love to play at the University of Kentucky.

Woody Baron
Woody Baron was chosen as Athlete of the Week for his performance throwing the shot put and discus for the BA track and field team, but everyone knows this junior’s real talent is on the football field.
His personal record in shot put is 45 feet and discus is 139 feet. Woody is relatively new with this sport and can see improvements every time he throws.
Last week Woody was chosen to compete in the 2012 Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio. As a defensive end for the BA Eagles, Woody helped get the team to the state semifinals with 17 sacks. A domineering force of 6-foot-2 and 250 pounds, Woody was also named a Mr. Football finalist in the statewide competition.
Woody hopes to play football at a college he and his entire family see as the best fit for him athletically and academically. His current favorite is Virginia Tech.
Woody’s fun fact: He weighed 200 pounds in the second grade.

Valerie Griffin
BA sophomore Valerie Griffin will compete in her first pentathlon next week at MBA. Currently Valerie holds third place in BA history for her discus throw of 106-8. Her other events include shot put, 100 hurdles and the 800-meter run. To prepare for the pentathlon and state meet Valerie trains 2-3 hours a day.
Valerie is extremely active at Brentwood Academy. She is a football cheerleader and a wing on the varsity basketball team, as well as a standout on the track team. Outside of school Valerie dances competitively for the Legacy Dance Company, and spends her summers on the dive team.
BA middle school track coach Hunt Atkins is the one Valerie credits most for her success. Although still busy with his middle school girls team, Coach Hunt always finds time to mentor Valerie.
Valerie’s goal is to run track and field in college, but she has no favorites yet.
Another talent Valerie has is the ability to whistle like a cricket, and has great fun fooling people that crickets are everywhere.
