Alex Goff

Senior and co-captain of the rugby team, Alex made last year’s regional All-Star team.  He has 8 tries and 3 assists this year heading into the state playoffs – BHS as the No. 2 seed.

Much of Alex Goff’s success in rugby comes from being the youngest member of one of Brentwood's elite rugby families. His parents Ben and Teresa work hard to promote the sport in Brentwood. His oldest brother Benji is the captain of the University of Tennessee rugby team, has played in New Zealand and missed making the Olympic team by one spot.

Alex is attending Arkansas State in the fall and will play on their rugby team. There are no scholarships given for a club sport, although the team is ranked No. 4 in the nation. He is also trying out for the USA under-20s team this summer, and possibly the 2016 Olympics.

One of Alex’s favorite rugby memories was when he was playing on a beach in Mexico with his family and a professional player spotted him asked them to play in a game.

 Amber Sudzius

Not many girls can say they are a member of the timeless Steel Throwers Club. Brentwood High School junior Amber Sudzius is in the club and also an All-American in the discus and hammer.  She is going into the state tournament as the No. 2 seed.

Amber’s personal best throws are: discus, 121-0; shot put, 31-3.5; hammer, 107-8, and weight, 40-4.

Brentwood Middle School track coach Mike Winstead spotted Amber in eighth grade while she was playing volleyball and suggested she should try throwing the shot put and discus.  She fell in love with the sport, and discovered she was very talented.  Three years later and she is headed to the Junior Olympics at the end of July.

Amber would like to sign with a Division I college for track and field – namely Auburn, Illinois, or UNC.  She has a 4.0 GPA, but not certain what her major would be at this point.

Amber can kick almost as well as she throws as she has a black belt in karate.

Will Linder

On May 4, center midfielder soccer star Will Linder will sign to play for the University of Memphis. Will is an All-American finalist, on the first All-State team, and was last year’s district MVP.

This season Will has 12 goals and 8 assists.  He is on the Brentwood Soccer Club Premier ’93 state finalist team.

Will credits Ken Wilkin, a coach from New York, for teaching him the traits and basic foundation for his soccer game at an early age. He also says his biggest fans – parents Fred and Marla – have attended every game, and are always supportive and happy about his soccer.

Will is also an avid runner, and plays the guitar. Last year he was vice president of HOSA – a health care industry club exclusive to Ravenwood.  Will plans to enter the medical field as well, and will major in biology at Memphis.

A fun fact about Will – his grandfather is a sports legend in Indianapolis. He works for the Colts and has a Super Bowl ring.

Kayla Anthony

Kayla Anthony is one of the few seniors from last year’s state championship tennis team.  The team competed for a national championship a few weeks ago where they lost to the eventual champions. Kayla plays No. 2 doubles with co-captain Caroline Morelli on the team deep with talent, and the duo is undefeated.

Kayla will be going to the University of Tennessee this fall and majoring in math.  She would like to be a high school math teacher and coach.

Kayla’s fourth-grade teacher at Kenrose created her work ethic – put your heart out there when you do something, “play buzzer to buzzer.”  The RHS team is also devoting this season to their beloved coach A.W. Speake, who passed away shortly after the team won the state championship.  “The shock of losing A.W. brought us all close, and we’re determined to have a repeat for him.”

When all else fails Kayla looks for hope in her favorite number 11.  “Everything good for me relates to the number 11.  EVERYTHING, too many to list.”

Nick Smith

Senior tennis player Nick Smith has played since he was 6 years old, and is undefeated in the district this season at No. 3 doubles.

An avid skier, Nick is looking forward to attending Colorado State University in the fall.

Stuart Dale

Stuart Dale, a senior on the BA undefeated tennis team has played No. 1 singles for the past three years.

Stuart has the unique ability to quickly figure out her opponent and how she needs to play to win the match.  She has beaten many highly ranked tournament players throughout her high school career, which is impressive since Stuart does not devote her life to tennis.

In fact, Stuart decided joining the BA swim team might be fun, even though she had never swam before.  By the county meet Stuart won her heat in the 50-meter freestyle.  She is also involved in Younglife, Youth Legislature and Model UN.

Stuart plans to attend Auburn University, major in psychology, and have a career counseling kids.

Mrs. Stewart, a BA history teacher and school favorite is the teacher who has greatly impacted Stuart’s life. “Mrs. Stewart always encourages me, is always interested in what I am doing, and always takes time out to ask about important issues in my life.”
