Please help us kick off 'BHP Nights at the Library'
By SUSAN LEATHERS
Brentwood Home Page

Brentwood Home Page invites all of our readers to the Brentwood Library tonight for our first "BHP Night at the Library". Our inaugural “night out” will be a meet-and-greet opportunity to visit with the candidates running for a seat on the Brentwood City Commission -- Bert Bosse, Jill Burgin, Betsy Crossley, Anne Dunn, Rod Freeman and Brenda Lehman.

Each candidate will have their own area in the library’s large meeting room to give you the chance to meet them one on one, to see and pick up campaign materials and to learn more about the City Commission and what it does.

Early voting in the May 3 Municipal Election, which will seat at least two new commissioners, is under way. Votes can be cast between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday-Friday at the Election Office at the Williamson County Administrative Complex in Franklin; the Brentwood Library, 8109 Concord Road, and the Brentwood Municipal Building, 5211 Maryland Way through April 28 with the exception of April 22 (Good Friday). The Brentwood locations will also be open April 23 from 8 a.m. to noon.

BHP Night at the Library begins at 7 p.m. and will end promptly at 8:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

Since starting Brentwood Home Page, we have strived to make our online newspaper “the go to place for Everything Brentwood.” BHP Night at the Library is a natural extension of that mission.

Starting in May, the nights will move to the fourth Tuesday of each month. Already planned are:

May 24: Getting your news in BHP and other local media. We invite representatives from local churches, non-profits, youth sports leagues, businesses and anyone else who would like to learn how BHP can help advertise their events, fundraisers, news and more in local media outlets.

June 28: A Night with Dr. Jim Wellborn. Wellborn, BHP’s “There’s a Stranger in My House” columnist, is a child, adolescent, and family psychologist with a private practice in Brentwood. He is also an entertaining and informative speaker who focuses on the things that parents of local teens and pre-teens want and need to know about.

July 26: A Night with Dr. Bill Fleet. Our favorite retired pediatrician, Dr. Fleet has charmed our readers with his Sawdust and Turnip Greens columns. It will be no surprise to all who attend that he’s even more charming and humorous in person.

August 23: We’re still trying to nail down the guests speakers, but we can guarantee the program will be about this 2011 high school football season.

If you have a suggestion for a Brentwood Home Page Night at the Library theme, we’d love to hear it. But more than that, we hope you’ll mark  your calendar and spend one Tuesday evening a month with us for the foreseeable future.
