Brentwood Home Page news reports
Montgomery Bell Academy, which competes against Brentwood Academy in the Division II-AA East/Middle Region, has been hit with major sanctions by the TSSAA for violations of recruiting and financial aid rules.

MBA has to vacate its 2010 basketball and 2007 football state championships, as well as the 2009 football runner-up title in which it beat BA in the semis. The program also has to vacate a number of regular-season victories: in football for the entire 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons; all games in basketball for 2007-08 and 2008-09, plus eight contests in 2009-10.

In addition, the school will be on probation for two years starting Feb. 1, with a fine of $2,000; will have to return $46,952.33 in football postseason revenues; and will pay $1,700 in fines for playing ineligible student-athletes. If another violation occurs during probation, MBA will be on restricted probation for all athletics for one year and an additional year in the sport it occurs; and be fined $25,000.

MBA has agreed to hire a Compliance Officer; make some changes in its financial aid billing and structure; educate its own staff members; and hold seminars for other Division II schools. Division II was created for private schools who give financial aid (based on need and certified by an outside organization and a TSSAA committee) after a battle between Brentwood Academy and the TSSAA.
