Named for one of Brentwood’s earliest families, Mayfield is a quiet little neighborhood located just off Wilson Pike.
“One of the things that we liked best was the fact that it was so close to the interstate, and yet it’s very peaceful and quiet,” says Clifton Lambreth, who has lived in the subdivision with his family for eight and a half years. “All of the homes have at least an acre lot, which was really appealing. Our property is lined with nice mature trees … And after living in Fieldstone Farms Parks, we also appreciate having a smaller neighborhood.
“We really like our neighbors – it’s quite an eclectic group, which I think is always a positive,” he adds. “We try to have two or three get-togethers each year, and people are very friendly. I can’t imagine ever leaving – it’s just a wonderful neighborhood.”
Built from the mid-1990s by Alan Adams, Mayfield features just about 30 homes – all on a full acre or more. Because of its small size, the neighborhood offers no real amenities. But its location, roughly half-way between Old Hickory Boulevard and Concord Road, ensures convenient access to local recreation facilities, shopping and more.
The community also maintains an informal home owner’s association, known as Mayfield Garden Volunteers.
“Dues are not mandatory, but we have a high percentage of residents who contribute each year,” says Joyce Samples, who heads up the organization. “This money is used to for maintenance and upkeep of the front entrance.”
Samples and her husband moved to Mayfield in 2006.
“We had eight acres in Cane Ridge, and while we wanted to scale back a little, we realized that we liked having a little elbow room,” she says. “We liked the land here, the fact that we’re off the main road and we don’t have a lot of traffic. It’s very peaceful, and there are a lot of trees. Our back fencerow is a tree line. My husband has his hammock, and we can enjoy breakfast out on the deck. We don’t get to be out there often enough, but it’s very pleasant.”
