National tour makes Williamson County stop Sept. 24
Home Page news reports
Lance Cpl. Ben Maenza of Brentwood will lead the parade when the Wounded Warrior Project’s 2011 Soldier Ride National Tour comes to Williamson County on Sept. 24.

Last November, Brentwood Police Chief Ricky Watson led a community effort to retrofit the young Marine's Brentwood home so that he could spend the Christmas holidays with this family.

Maenza will ride a bike with other Wounded Warriors along with others who must raise a minimum of $150 to support the Wounded Warriors Project. The ride begins and ends at Battle Ground Academy, 336 Ernest Rice Lane, in Franklin. Volunteers are needed to line the route to wave flags and support the participants who can choose a 25- or 50-mile route.

The event begins with registration and packet pickup starting at 7 a.m. A kickoff celebration is scheduled for 8:45 a.m., with the ride starting at 9 a.m. A post-ride community picnic follows. Lunch is included in each rider’s $25 registration fee.

“We want to see the community out that day waving flags and welcoming our heroes.” Says organizer Becky Ross.

Information and registration are available at the Wounded Warriors website, www.soldierride.org.  Anyone interested in volunteering can click here for more information.
