By KELLY JOHNSON Special to Brentwood Home Page I was at work when a chauffeur showed up and told me that he was sent to take me somewhere. My boss was evidently in on it, because she just smiled and said, “Go on!”
We stepped outside and he put me into a beautiful Cadillac. We headed back to my house and he said he’d be back in an hour. When I got to my room, there was a beautiful new evening dress laid out on my bed!

We left for downtown Nashville and passed by Hillsboro Village. I asked if we could stop at my childhood home. Unknowingly, I played right into his hand. As my chauffeur stopped the car, my boyfriend, Ken, walked out of the front door dressed in a tux. He’d contacted the owner and asked if we could see the house. I took them on a tour of my childhood home.
From there we headed to Riverfront Park and boarded the Broadway Dinner Train. We had a wonderful meal and did some stargazing through the glass roofed car.
We got back into the Cadillac and drove to a small runway where a private plane awaited us. We flew over Nashville at night -- it was breathtaking!
We came down from the heavens and headed back to my old childhood home in the village. We strolled the streets hand in hand and approached an old tree - as a child, this was my dance partner, “base” for games, etc. As I reminisced, I realized that Ken had stopped. I turned around. He’d knelt by the tree… and there he asked me to marry him!
Then he handed me a copy of the movie Planes, Trains and Automobiles. You see, on our first date we discovered we both loved that movie. And now it had become our favorite memory.
