The Williamson County Board of Education is back to full strength, following the swearing in of newly appointed Ninth District school board member Rick Wimberly at the board’s regular meeting Tuesday. Wimberly was appointed by the Williamson County Commission to fill the seat vacated by Barry Watkins who resigned last fall.

Once that action was complete, the Board approved the annual evaluation of Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney. To view the evaluation, go to www.wcs.edu. The report and comments are located in the middle of the homepage. 

One student and several teachers were in the spotlight during the meeting. Among them were Christie Feiler of Brentwood High and Jill Lloyd-Crucini of Sunset Middle who renewed their National Board Certification.

Looney also called Chief Financial Officer Leslie Holman to the podium to thank her and her staff for the department’s professionalism and for receiving another clean audit report.

In new business, the board:

Approved a budget resolution of $45,872 for a Fine Arts Curriculum Specialist to serve fine arts programs at elementary, middle and high schools.

In other business, the Board:

  • Approved recommended field trip fee requests.
  • Approved Board policy Graduation with Honors on second reading.
  • Approved grants from the State of Tennessee Federal Programs including a $16,834 grant for English Language Learners, ELL, and a grant for $45,000 from First to the Top for embedded professional development for fifth grade math teachers.
  • Approved a student request to transfer out of county.
  • Approved a storage shed at Grassland Elementary.

Approved open zoned schools for the 2012-13 school year. Centennial High will be open zoned for up to 50 students from Ravenwood and Franklin. Page High School will be open zoned for up to 50 students from Ravenwood High. Heritage Middle will be open zoned for up to 50 students from Spring Station Middle. The next regular meeting of the WCBE will be Monday, Feb. 20, at 6:30 p.m. in the Auditorium of the county’s Administrative Complex.
