Williamson County Schools had 31,144 students in attendance Monday, 62 fewer than projected for the school year but 616 more students than at the end of the 2009-10 school year, according to Dr. Mike Looney’s report presented at Monday night’s school board meeting.

Looney also mentioned that the 2010-11 school year had gotten off to a great start and he thanked the principals for making that happen.

In the Board Chairman’s Report, Pat Anderson congratulated the district for opening three new schools. She also reminded board members that the district’s strategic planning meetings take place this week. One is scheduled at Brentwood High on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

In new business, the Board:

Approved a Memorandum of Understanding and an Inter-local Agreement so the district can work with the City of Franklin on road improvements and other issues for the new elementary school site proposed in the Breezeway Subdivision.

Approved three policy revisions on first reading including Employee Issued Cell Phones, Evaluation and Student Records.

Approved two resolutions amending the 2010-2011 budgets including a resolution for $45,496 to use remaining money from the American History Grant and a resolution for $1,091,020 to re-designate previously issued bond funds to pay for replacing computers and maintenance needs.

Voted to place no restrictions on the calendar committee regarding parameters for the 2010-2011 District Calendar.

Among other actions, the board:

  • Approved construction of an athletic storage building at Grassland Middle School.
  • Approved an internal wall modification at Ravenwood High School.
  • Approved construction of a shelter at Brentwood High School.

Each school principal has a copy of the Board packet information.

The next regular meeting of the WCBE will be Monday, Sept. 20, at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the county administrative complex.
