| Local merit scholars announced |

Corrected 11 a.m. Thursday Brentwood Home Page news reports In its third announcement of the year, National Merit Scholarship Corporation released the next list of names who will receive scholarships. These scholarships are financed by US colleges and universities. More than 2900 winners were chosen by officials of each sponsor college from among the finalists in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend their institution.
These awards will provide between $500 and $2000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the college or university financing the scholarship. This year 198 institutions are underwriting Merit Scholarships awards, including 118 private and 80 public colleges and universities located in 45 states and the District of Columbia.
The students who are awarded this scholarships include: Sarah Allen from Ravenwood High School who will attend Auburn University; Benton Bailey from Ravenwood High School who will attend Northwestern University; Christian Mueller from Brentwood High School who will attend the University of Florida; Leah Richardson from Brentwood High School who will attend Washington University; Kelsey Bastian from Brentwood Academy who will attend Auburn University; Caroline Coughlin from Brentwood High School who will attend Northeastern University; and Tulsi Patel from Brentwood High School who will attend Emory University.
