In Brentwood, the name Beasley is synonymous with real estate. And why not? Brentview Realty consistently ranks among the state’s top producers and represents four generations of real estate professionals. But Garrett Beasley – who joined father Andy in the family business 10 years ago – recently got a taste of the national spotlight when he appeared on HGTV’s popular House Hunters.

So, how does someone get on an HGTV show like House Hunters? The HGTV.com website has a link with information on how to apply for more than 40 programs, from Property Virgins to Design on a Dime. Because they film several shows in one geographic area at a time, depending on what show you are interested in, you may have to wait until Middle Tennessee comes around again.

In the episode, which first aired on Jan. 19, Beasley worked with a young couple in Hendersonville to find their dream home. Chandler and Laura Knox had recently relocated from Georgia and were renting a small condo in the Green Hills area. They were looking for more space for their growing family – which includes a Great Dane named Shelby, and two Chihuahuas, named Punky and Lola.
“Chandler actually grew up in Hendersonville, and still had family in the area, so they were somewhat familiar with the market,” Beasley says. “They had a good idea of what they wanted, and were definitely looking for a good investment – someplace where they could build equity.”
In keeping with the House Hunters format, the Knoxes looked at three homes ranging from a one-level with an awkward layout to a 4,000-square-foot gem owned by former Tennessee Titan Daniel Loper. The couple finally settled on an all-brick, 3,400-square-foot home with a covered back porch and stacked stone chimney.

“It was really exciting to shoot a reality show, but I had no idea how much went into it. ... We shot over 40 hours worth of tape, which they cut down to about 22 minutes.”

“It was good fit,” Beasley says. “It’s a nice neighborhood, an open floor plan with four bedrooms, and a nice fenced yard for the dogs. Best of all, the property had been sitting for a while, so the price was pretty negotiable, and they were able to use that to their advantage.”
And while the home needed some cosmetic work, Chandler Knox says it offered “great potential.”
“It’s an awesome neighborhood, a great layout, and the home really gives us room to grow,” he says, noting that he and Laura will welcome their first child in April. “We definitely see ourselves here for a long time.”
In addition to being pleased with the home, however, Knox also was impressed with Beasley.
“Garrett was unbelievably professional,” he says. “He has a great working knowledge of the local real estate scene, along with the energy and passion to help find exactly what you want. We would definitely work with him again. He’s just a super nice guy, very hard working, and the kind of realtor that answers your phone calls.”
Beasley may be known for his work ethic, but even he was surprised by the amount of time and effort that went into shooting the House Hunters episode.
“It was really exciting to shoot a reality show, but I had no idea how much went into it,” he says with a laugh. “We shot over 40 hours worth of tape, which they cut down to about 22 minutes. There’s a lot that goes into each shot, in terms of prepping the room, the lighting and sound – things you wouldn’t even think of – and then there’s a lot of editing. But it was fun, and I’m happy to have been part of it.”
The will run again at 5 p.m. on March 10.
