Volunteers will meet at Indoor Rec Center Saturday Brentwood Home Page news reports Thursday night's storms won't deter the Brentwood Rotary Club from its annual Little Harpeth River cleanup planned Saturday morning.
"I’ve been watching the forecast all day. It looks like we will be in for some fun tonight, but will clear up tomorrow," the club's Environmental Projects chair Skip Heibert said Thursday afternoon. "The forecast for Saturday shows 42 degrees at 9 a.m. and 55 degrees at noon ... and a 90 perecent chance of no rain, or for the pessimists out there, 10 percent chance of rain."
Heibert is trying his best to be optimistic. "We will hold the event rain or shine but I think we will get shine. We have been extremely lucky in that we have only had to cancel once in six years due to weather."
Civic groups, businesses, neighborhoods, or other citizens are invited to volunteer to clean portions of the river as it flows through Brentwood. The river winds through the city for 10 miles.
Anyone who wants to help should be at the Williamson County Indoor Sports Complex on Heritage Drive at 9 a.m. Saturday. Trash bags, safety vests and trash removal gear will be provided by Keep Williamson Beautiful. Volunteers will have the rest of the day to remove debris and collect unwanted trash along the shoreline.
"Last year 91 volunteers removed 2,190 pounds of trash from our stretch of the river. This service project had a direct benefit to all Brentwood citizens as well as our neighbors downstream,” Heibert said recently.
Interested volunteers should contact Heibert at 615-812-0190. |
