Students, PTO adopt 50 Salvation Army Angels
Brentwood Home Page news reports

In just over a week’s time, Lipscomb Elementary parents and students heeded the call of the Salvation Army’s immediate needs for Angel Tree adoptions and gathered over 250 gifts for more than 50 Angels.  Each class was given an angel to adopt and students and parents went to work to meet both the needs and wants of that child for Christmas.

“Each year, we look for ways that we can help our students give back to our community.  At our fall parties, we gathered food for the Fuel bag project.  When we heard about this year’s astonishing needs of Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program, we knew this was it,” PTO President Jennifer Mathews said.

In addition to gathering items for their Angel, the Lipscomb students learned more about the Angel Tree program and the fact that the national spread of the Angel Tree program happened right in their backyard – through the radio waves of the WSMV tower just across the street from the school.  The Angel Tree program offers assistance to families in Davidson, Williamson and surrounding counties.

When the gifts were delivered to the Angel Tree Headquarters on Monday, the “Lipscomb Elves” learned that there were 2,000 angels still to be adopted.  The school immediately went into action, notifying parents, with the plans to get further donations before the Friday delivery deadline.

“After seeing the need, we knew we just had to continue to find ways to give,” shared Mathews.  “It’s not surprising that the families at Lipscomb agreed.”

If you want to help the Salvation Army with its remaining Angel Tree needs, donations are being accepted at the Angel Tree headquarters (811 Cowan Street, Nashville) through Friday.
