Brentwood Home Page news reports
The Ravenwood High School girls tennis team, the defending state champion in Class AAA, is wearing pink uniforms for its home matches this season in memory of Coach A.W. Speake.

The Lady Raptors had a moment of silence and prayer before taking the court last Monday, a 9-0 season-opening victory over rival Brentwood.

Coach Speake collapsed and died on the school's tennis courts last fall.

"They decided on pink for the home matches because last year on the run to state they had hot pink T-shirts made and A.W. wore his proudly," said Tammy Caballero, mother of junior Lauren Caballero.

The Lady Raptors' pink tops have the initials AW embroidered on the bottom right.

In Thursday's boys Battle of the Woods, the AAA defending state champion Brentwood Bruins won 6-3 over Ravenwood at the Raptors' home courts.

The Raptors boys play host to Independence after school today and the girls on Tuesday. Both squads take on Centennial in a home match at Crockett Park at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, before the girls travel to the DecoTurf King of Bluegrass tournament in Louisville, Ky.

The BHS teams visit Ensworth today, then host Unviersity School on Wednesday and Lone Oak, Ky., on Thursday.
