Lady Raptors take tourney title in Florida

RHS boys, BHS girls score afternoon victories

Ravenwood's girls basketball team not only got a trip to Florida for the holiday break, but also captured a tournament championship.

The Lady Raptors (11-3), led by Erin Lauderdale's 18 points, won the Hernando Holiday Classic in Brooksville, Fla., with a 54-30 finals victory Thursday night over Lakes Wales (5-8). Lauderdale hit a pair of 3-pointers in the win.

RHS won its three games in the tourney by a combined 86 points.

Devin Robinson, meanwhile, scored a season-high 26 points for the RHS boys team Thursday afternoon, leading the Raptors (11-4) past Spring Hill (8-2) 71-57 in the Overton Christmas Tournament. Evan Forhetz sank a trio of 3-pointers to finish with 11 points, Robert Veal also scored 11, and Riley Stoner had 10 points.

Also Thursday afternoon, Kyla Kerstetter netted 20 points as the Brentwood girls (11-2) bounced back from the previous day's loss, defeating the host Buccaneers 39-22 in the Beech Holiday Tournament.

The Brentwood boys also won in their final game before New Year's. Here is a roundup of Wednesday's tournament results:

Ravenwood girls: The Lady Raptors dispatched McKeel Academy of Lakeland, Fla., 71-35 on Wednesday night behind 25 points from Erin Lauderdale. Lauderdale hit five 3-pointers, and Logan Hodskins and Lydia Wright chipped in with 10 points apiece in the semifinal game.

Ravenwood hosts Oakland in a double-header starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, and begins district play at Hillsboro on Friday, Jan. 7.

Ravenwood boys: The RHS boys won 59-43 Wednesday over Creekside in the Overton tournament, with Forhetz leading the way with 17 points. Robinson scored 14 and Stoner 10.

The Raptors' Thursday opponent, Spring Hill, edged David Lipscomb 60-59 Wednesday and had only previously lost this season in the tourney Tuesday to then-undefeated East Literature.

Brentwood girls: The Lady Bruins suffered just their second defeat of the season, falling 52-45 Wednesday to nationally rated Clarksville at the Beech tournament.

Kerstetter scored 20 including a trio of 3-pointers in the loss, while Natalie Schumaker added 11. BHS gave up 28 points to Jessy Ward, who nailed five 3s for the Lady Wildcats (14-2), unbeaten in the state.

Brentwood boys: The Bruins (12-5) won again in the Hickman County Christmas Invitational, 56-50 over Hunters Lane on Wednesday in their final tuneup before district action. James Cox and Cody Shelton each scored 15 points, and Jack Montague had 13.

BHS, which went 2-1 in the tourney, opens District 11-AAA play at Independence  on Friday, Jan. 7, with the girls game starting at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m.
