Lady Raptors return to state soccer tourney

Ravenwood's girls soccer team is heading back to the state tournament in Chattanooga after winning a sectional match 1-0 at Region 5-AAA champ Hendersonville on Saturday night.

Christina Lowder ended up scoring the game's only goal, off an assist by Shelby Todd, in the second half. Goalkeeper Rose Hull recorded two saves for RHS (16-5), the Region 6-AAA runner-up.

The Lady Raptors will take on unbeaten Knoxville Farragut (20-0-2) in the TSSAA Class AAA quarterfinals at 10:30 a.m. CDT Wednesday at Baylor School. The winner will advance against the Siegel-Houston winner at 3:30 p.m. CDT Thursday, also at Baylor.

The AAA championship is at 12:30 p.m. CDT Saturday at Girls Preparatory School.

Ravenwood reached the state semis last season for the first time.

District and region champion Franklin continued its undefeated season by beating Henry County 3-0 to also make the AAA state tourney field. The Lady Rebels (21-0-0) play Knoxville Bearden at 3:30 p.m. CDT Wednesday at Baylor, and would take on either Soddy-Daisy or Collierville in the 6 p.m. CDT Thursday semifinal.

In Division II-AA, Brentwood Academy ended its season in the state quarterfinals with a 4-0 loss at Baylor.

In Class A-AA, Christ Presbyterian made the state quarterfinals and will play Gatlinburg-Pittman at 1 p.m. CDT Wednesday at Chattanooga Christian.
