In the end, Dobyns-Bennett High School made it three for three over Ravenwood this season and took the Class AAA state volleyball championship trophy home to Kingsport Friday afternoon.
The Lady Raptors lost 25-22, 25-21 and 25-18 to the only team that beat them more than once throughout the entire season.
Ravenwood players and new Head Coach Tracey Berry had set a goal at the start of the season -- make it past the district level for the first time. They not only achieved that goal, they won their way through the Region 6, sub-state and Class AAA state-level competition all the way to the finals.
The Ravenwood volleyball team defeated Independence 25-14, 25-9 and 25-21 Friday morning to advance to the championship match.
In girls soccer action, Brentwood’s Lady Bruins fell to Franklin Thursday night in the Region 6-AAA Regional Championship game played at Brentwood. They will play Station Camp High on Saturday.
