District semifinal with Lady Bruins scoreless through 4 OTs

Brentwood Home Page news reports
Everyone there knew this was the game of the season for both teams. The Lady Raptors (14-3) and the Lady Bruins (9-5-1) battled 110 minutes and still went to penalty kicks to decide who would face undefeated Franklin in the District 11-AAA finals on Wednesday and who faced their elimination on the road to the state tournament.

The game remained scoreless through regulation, two 10-minute overtimes and two 5-minute sudden-death overtimes.  Ravenwood had to wait until PKs to put rival Brentwood out of the running with a 1-0 final score (4-1 in the tie-breaking PK shootout).

Katriel Lee, the BHS junior goalie, held off the Lady Raptors' 14 shots on goal with 13 saves.  Three of those shots were taken on free kicks by opposing goalie Rose Hull.  Hull left the game with a red card in the second half due to a goal-saving hand ball just outside the box.

Sophomore goalie Lindsey Todd came in and took over seamlessly.

BHS battled to a scoreless tie in regulation.

“I’ve never had a red card and haven’t had to sit out any games,” Hull said. “The team just got more motivated and there was no drop in level of play. Lindsey did a great job and I am proud of her, this was her chance to shine.”

When Hull went out, the Raptors were required to play one player down for the remainder of regulation. Hull also will be unable to play in Wednesday's district finals against Franklin, but can return for the region tournament.

Ravenwood’s captain Christy Padgett, who had ACL surgery in April, put in the first penalty kick. The Raptors would not miss a single shot, with Shelby Todd, Ali Sadler and Caitlin Boone also finding the goal on their PKs.

“We played as a team – we played together,”  Padgett said. “We fought and did what we had to do to win.”

The Lady Bruins would miss their first and third kicks.

Several RHS and BHS players are on Brentwood Soccer Club team.

BHS freshman Jessie Boozer made her attempt as second up. Two Lady Bruins were left standing unable to take their shots.

Ravenwood head coach Ken White said it was an excellent game played superbly by both teams.

“I’ve been hard on them.  In order to play for me you have to show heart and desire,” White said. “Once we got to overtime, it was about game management. As long as they didn’t score, we could get to PKs. This was very satisfying.”

Bruins head coach Cal Long was able to bring his team to victory in the regular season 5-2 over the Lady Raptors.

“To come up inches short is always tough,” Long said. “This is the best district in the state and you can see why watching this game. I love these girls and am so proud how they pushed and fought.”
