Trailing 38-34 and with time out on the floor with 2:19 left in the game, Brentwood head coach Ronnie Seigenthaler told his team not to panic. The Lady Bruins' heeded those words and scored the game's final five points to take a 39-38 victory over Ravenwood’s Lady Raptors in the consolation game of the District 11-AAA Girls Basketball Tournament.

 

"It wasn't time to panic, being down four," Seigenthaler said. "It was time to play.

 

"Players make plays, and we had kids step up and do their job and force the tempo to our favor."

 

The first half was low-scoring and closely played. Brentwood led 9-8 after the first quarter, while Ravenwood was able to retake the lead and led 17-15 at halftime. There were four ties and the lead changed hands four times.

 

Brentwood opened the third quarter with a 12-3 run to open up a 27-20 lead midway through the quarter.

 

The Lady Raptors answered back, though, thanks in part to 3-pointers from Ashley Beyke and Erin Lauderdale. Lauderdale's 3-pointer came at the third-quarter buzzer and tied the score at 29-29.

 

Ravenwood twice took the lead, at 31-29 and 33-31, early in the fourth quarter. However, Brentwood's Kyla Kerstetter scored and was fouled with 5:51 left in the game. Her free throw gave the Lady Bruins a 34-33 lead.

 

The Lady Raptors came right back with another 3-pointer from Lauderdale and two free throws from Jayne Rice.

 

Kerstetter scored to cut Brentwood's deficit to 38-36 with 1:35 left in the game. She then stole the ball on the ensuing possession before being fouled on the floor.

 

Brentwood guard Paige Hood then made her only attempt of the game, sinking a 3-pointer to give the Lady Bruins the lead.

 

Ravenwood had three more looks at the basket, but was unable to score.

 

Kerstetter led all scorers with 17 points. Lauderdale led the Lady Raptors with 15.

 

Both teams move on the regional tournament which begins Friday. Brentwood will be the third seed from the 11-AAA with Ravenwood the fourth seed.
