It's all in a name at Mignon's
Nestled on the corner of Wilson Pike Circle and Church Street is one of Brentwood's newest boutiques that features many local artists.
A small, juicy steak may first come to mind when hearing the word mignon but it is French for small, pretty and dainty and for owner Melissa Mignon Grabois it is a name her family has carried for five generations.
"Each generation that had a daughter would give the name Mignon, whether it's the first or middle name," said Chera Coffman, manager at Mignon's: A Pretty Little Mess.
Bess Mignon was born in Texas in 1886. When she married, she named her daughter Enid Mignon. Enid gave birth to B. Mignon, Melissa's mother, who went by her middle name. Melissa has three children, four boys and one girl, Mignon Elise, who has performed on Broadway, Disney and is now a Commercial Voice major at Belmont University.
Grabois and Coffman met three years ago when Coffman opened a booth in Grabois' Nolensville shop. They opened Mignon's Feb. 1.
"We wanted to bring something to Brentwood that had something for everything -- home decor, custom furniture, painting, custom lighting and great gifts, clothes and jewelry," Coffman told BHP. "Business has been great, everyone has been so welcoming here."
Coffman said items tend to range from $3 to $7,000 depending on what shoppers are looking for. She added that they try to shop locally as much as possible searching in Tennessee and Kentucky for the various goods they sell.
The store, located at 202 Wilson Pike Circle is open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
