Hot fudge cake and a Swine Soiree: Who can ask for more?
Hot fudge cake and a Swine Soiree: Who can ask for more? | BrentWord, Brentwood Home Page,Susan Leathers, brentwood tn news, MacK & Kate's Cafe, Shoney's, Athena, Biggest Loser, Bear Creek Farms

Have you seen the commercials?

Shoney’s, home of the Big Boy, is changing and today at 11:30 a.m. Shoney’s Brentwood restaurant will celebrate its “Grand Re-Opening.”

The restaurant, that sits atop a hill at 791 Old Hickory Boulevard, has undergone a complete renovation since a fire closed it months ago. Promised are a new “fresh look” and a new menu. Will the Big Boy double-decker sandwich that I'm pretty sure preceded the Big Mac survive? I’ll let you know. Since they are giving out Shoney’s signature hot fudge cake free to all who attend, you can bet I’ll be there.

Also expected to take part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony are Nashville Police Chief Steve Anderson (the restaurant is technically in Davidson County but we’ll still claim it as ours) and Williamson County Mayor Rogers Anderson. Best of all, 10 percent of today’s sales will benefit the Pencil Foundation which promotes academic achievement in Nashville’s public schools.

Check back tomorrow for a full report. I’d invite you to the celebration, but that might mean one less piece of cake for moi.

Speaking of pigs, have you heard about the Swine Soiree? I kid you not. One of the hottest new restaurants in our area – this one located just past the city limits on the south side of town – requests the honor of your presence to celebrate the marriage of Earl and Priscilla, two Bear Creek Farms pigs. MacK & Kate’s Café will host the 3 p.m. ceremony which will be followed with a reception for the ages.

Tickets are $15 and proceeds will be donated to Linda’s Hope, which benefits pancreatic cancer research.

We’ve been talking about trying to grow the number of wedding and engagement announcements in Brentwood Home Page but I’m not sure these nuptials are exactly what we had it mind. But who knows; if the happy couple have an official wedding portrait, we may just have to post the details. The Gateway Village restaurant has won plenty of fans of its food, so I have to believe this will be a ceremony with lots of class.

Wonder what Priscilla will wear? Poufs of illusion and Chantilly lace? Or perhaps a knockoff of Kate’s Royal Wedding gown? Can’t wait to find out!

In related, unrelated news, my Biggest Loser team came in second Saturday at Athena Health Club. I signed up for the six-week program because, well, let’s be honest: I need to lose despite my affinity for hot fudge cake and pork barbecue.

Suffice it to say I ended up weighing less than my starting weight, but far below my goal. So that only means one thing: I’ll have to do it again.

If someone knows of a reason why the gym and I should not be joined together, please speak now ... and pass another slice of wedding cake while you're at it.
